Both squads go into Tuesday nights matchup boasting a 1-0 record for the season. The Cowboys come to Baton Rouge after beating Louisiana College 72 to 54 in front of a whopping 492 fans. McNeese State isn’t a very deep squad. All of their starters played over 25 minutes and only 4 others played, each playing under 15 minutes. McNeese only had 8 bench points. This will obviously be a problem against an LSU team that likes to run and wear out their opponent.
McNeese also had 16 turnovers against div II Louisiana College. LSU will try to really pressure McNeese into some turnovers. McNeese was led by Senior Dontae Cannon the 6’1” shooting guard who had 21 points and 3 assists. He made 1 of 4 from three point range but 8 of 12 from the field (7 of 8 from 2pt) and 4 of 5 from the FT line. Even with a lineup seriously lacking size, they were able to score 40 points in the paint. Looks like they like to drive and score. They had 14 total fast break points and didn’t allow a single fast break point.
They have a couple 6’7” Freshman that will come in off the bench but they showed very little ability to score. This shouldn’t be much of a game for very long. Look for the Tigers to continue to work on team chemistry and keeping the turnover totals low. The Tigers did much better in their first game than they did in the exhibition. They only had 13 turnovers (only 10 before walk-ons entered). The Tigers need to right the ship at the free throw line and continue to work on their half court offense which at times became stagnant.
Projected Starting Lineups:
McNeese St
1. Kevin Hardy (6’2” 180 Sophomore)
2. Jeremie Mitchell (6’3” 180 Senior)
3. Dontae Cannon (6’1” 168 Senior)
4. Adrian Fields (6’5” 197 Junior)
5. Desharick Guidry (6’5” 200 Sophomore)
LSU
1. Anthony Hickey (5’11” 178 Sophomore)
2. Charles Carmouche (6’4” 187 Senior)
3. Malik Morgan (6’4” 188 Freshman)
4. Shavon Coleman (6’5” 195 Junior)
5. Eddie Ludwig (6’9” 209 Senior)
** This lineup is under the assumption that Johnny O’Bryant will not be playing Tuesday. While he is listed as day-to-day I do not see Jones putting him into the lineup for this game as a precaution. They are very small and the Tigers would not gain a lot (longrun) having JOB play.
Key to the game:
LSU needs to continue to work on keeping turnovers down while also keeping fast break points up.
Prediction:
LSU 82, McNeese St 64
Season: 17-12

Radio: 98.1 FM

I hadn't noticed... We shall see where we stand in a couple of weeks. For now, we just need to continue to improve. Future is bright.
edit: Illinois St hit 67% from 2pt and 50% from 3pt and won 100-72. Ill St is actually a really solid team. LSU should have won by at least 30 if they hit their damn free throws.

yeah i was just about to say Illinois St isnt a slouch. They were double digit favorites. If JOB doesnt get hurt we win by at least 20. Probably 20+.

We were up 22 when we put the walkons in... We dominated the second half. Not worried.

Their roster is filled with Freshman and Sophomores. It will be a long season for them. Ill start looking at some of our other opponents and how they are doing.

UC-Irvine looks to have a pretty good team this year. They beat a very good Nevada team that returns a ton of players who won 2 games in the NIT last season.
That will be a very tough road victory and could be a very impressive win if we can leave Cali with a victory.

I don't think I want JOB to play in this game. We don't need to risk him coming back too early and we can continue to get valuable experience at the 4 and 5 for Ludwig, Courtney, and Coleman, all of whom will be relied on at some point this season against better competition than McNeese.
Maybe in this game, Tuba gets in before the other walkons?

The Tigers have a whole week off before next game. I could see them using Ludwig, Coleman, and Courtney all game at 4 and 5. I would possibly see if Hammink could hang down there, but I do not see very much need to see Tuba. It's very clear to me thru 2 games that Tuba just won't be an asset to this team besides a tall scout team player.
I wanna see Eddie get some mojo before the away games come in a few weeks. With the small lineup of McNeese I could see Eddie getting his first career double double.

Just noticed that Johnny Jones' North Texas squad isn't doing quite as well without him this season.... They lost to dII school Alabama Huntsville by 3 last night to drop to 0-2. They were suppose to be pretty dang good this year, so it shows that Jones may have been a big loss for UNT even for this year.
