Another SEC team's success does not help LSU as a program, whatsoever.

I'm with you.
Can't stand the condescending arrogance of the fanbase of a team that just in the last few years has returned to pre-eminence, after two decades of so of mediocrity. I hope they lose to Auburn
Alabama.... fey!

People who worry about perception have never played sports. If you don't win your games, who cares what people at ESPN think about your conference. It means very little but people would rather pull for Bama to win a BCS title just so the SEC looks good. Say that out loud and listen to how stupid it sounds.
Clark, can I introduce you to Aub '94? All of these guys "played sports."
Matters less now, but when you're not the conference on top and think you should be it does.
BTW could care less who you root for. Was just helping you with one reason why the SEC fan thing exists.

Thank you. A rare voice of reason in this cacophany of pointless SEC pride. It should be obvious that it is not in LSU's interest that Bama win back to back championships. We recruit against those guys, not Oregon or K-State.

I only watch college football for 2 reasons: To see LSU win or to see Alabama lose. Could not care less how other SEC teams are doing. Don't give damn about any conference.

Same here. I couldn't give two shits about the other 13 teams in the league.

Having watched the SEC get pushed aside all during the 80's with some teams that were very capable - I say frick that. Even if Bama was to win two in a row, at least it keeps the SEC fresh in everybody's mind.
What we don't want, is to have Oregon beat the shite out of Kansas State, everybody to say how much more fun it is to see all offense and slowly but surely convince themselves that the SEC might be better in defense, but is not a brand name nor exciting football. Watched that very thing happen for a good part of my life.
How does that affect LSU? For starters, the big jump in the polls after winning the SEC title game doesn't happen because pollsters stop believing that's as huge a deal as it really is. So LSU doesn't play for the title in 2003 or 2007.

You people that blindly cheer for the SEC are not LSU fans.
An LSU fan wouldn't cheer for the teams competing for the same athletes. Chip Kelly can't use his success to come in to say, Dutchtown and steal a 5* recruit.
Kansas St won't come in and sway a kid from Ruston.
Bama, UF, UGA, and UT can.
We play Bama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, and now aTm every year. Scheduling will never be an issue. SEC schools are our competition.
Cheering for another SEC team makes zero sense.

I'm sure that those people are LSU fans. You may disagree with their reasoning, but that doesn't mean that they aren't LSU fans.
Personally, i think that all of the SEC schools get some benefit from the SEC being perceived as the best conference in the country. Better tv contracts, more merchandise sales and other things that raise revenue. In a revenue sharing league, this benefits all of the teams. Also, it seems pretty clear that it helps with recruiting.
The question is whether that results in a net benefit for LSU. Does whatever benefit that LSU receives outweigh the fact that its competitors in the SEC receive similar benefits and become tougher opponents.
I don't have the answer to that question. However, I do know that I don't want Bama to win another national championship or SEC championship. So, I'll be rooting for UGA in the SECCG if they play Bama.
As for the NC game, if LSU isn't in it then I don't care unless Bama is in it, in which case I will pull for the other team.

LSU fan all the way. Why would you hope that alabama makes it to the championship, when you cheer against them the whole football season. I hope someone would put me out of my misery if they caught me cheering for another team other than LSU.

At first I thought anyone but Bama.. but then I don't want a team like Florida to have 3 over the past decade or whatever..
I guess UGA is the only other team I'd want if it's not us winning it all.

Stand by for Mark Richt crying like a bitch if he wins the SECCG and doesn't make it to the NCG.

I know an LSU fan who was somewhat pleased that Bama edged LSU because he was concerned about the SEC continuing the BCS title streak.
I kid you not.
No, he's not a friend.
Yes, I told him he was f'd up!!11

as for pulling for UGA, screw that, too. Here's why:
SEC TITLES:
Alabama 22 (last in 2009)
Tennessee 13 (1998)
Georgia 12 (2005)
LSU 11 (2011)
I want LSU to overtake UGA and Tenn for 2nd place in all-time SEC titles. No one is going to catch Bama.
