After 6 years with Saban at Bama (and Miles at LSU) ....

the LSU-Bama game every November has now become entrenched as the undisputed, most-anticipated, regular season college football game in America.
The two programs have established themselves as the premier programs in the country, despite the fact that both play in the same division of the same conference.
And the two coaches have established themselves as the best in the game, and frequently the only coaches who can stand toe-to-toe, year after year, against each other.
No matter that each school has another traditional rival or two, both LSU and Bama now know full well that their number one rival and their greatest challenge every season is the other.
And what began as deep hatred has evolved of late into much more of a rivalry based primarily upon high respect for the other team, and the mutual understanding that the annual LSU-Bama game will be a clash of titans playing grown-man football, with neither team able to dominate over time, this newest and greatest rivalry in all of college football.
Your thoughts?

Nail on the head. This a perfect description IMO.

it's the michigan/ohio state game of the 70's. only the SEC is more dominate than the big 10 ever was.

Agreed. Sad that so many of the rantards on here can't keep things in perspective.

Agree, it is basically a quarter or semifinal for the national championship. We can only hope it stays like this for the foreseeable future.

How can that be? Everyone here knows that 'Bama's program is far more superior than LSU and Mile's cannot compete with Saban. How can a rivalry exist when there is such a discrepancy between the programs???

at first i thought this was going a completely different way.....
I hope this rivalry stays the way it is now. National Prime Time audience, NFL and celebrity alums littered all over campus and on the sidelines. Top 5 matchup most years. the absolute best of the best college football has to offer........

The one reason why a playoff will actually wind up benefiting LSU.

How dare you bring logic and reason to the rant!

You forgot to criticize the play calling. No thread here is complete without that.

still is.
good post. it kinda reminds me of the old OhioSt./Michigan thing where, every year, whoever won took all the marbles. positively speaking....I hope it remains "the game" for a very long time.

30 for 30 type shows will be made about this rivalry.

You guys go move to the big 12. There's no room in this conference for 2 heavyweights. We'd still play almost every year anyways, and we'd both have a lot more conference championships to show for it.

While I agree with your premise, I don't agree that the game is really that important, especially when you consider the fact that one team in the game has the luxury of knowing they will get a redo if they lose it.
That's a bit one sided, IMO. This game will especially become meaningless once the playoff starts. Bama will be in the driver's seat every year after that. This game is a luxury for them. They can't lose it.
