Why a 10-3 or 11-2 season is wildly successful this year....

I know that a lot of people will roll their eyes because for some reason everybody came into this season thinking championship.
I came in thinking anywhere from 10-2 to 12-0. Here's why:
1. It's ridiculous and absolutely unreasonable to come in expecting an undefeated season in this conference or any major conference.
2. We were starting a new QB.
But, let's review the adversity this team has had to face:
1. Best playmaker and projected starting CB kicked off team.
2. Starting LB not eligible.
3. Started freshman in Tyrann's and Tahj's place.
4. Freshman's backup at CB is another FR, who's backup is yet another FR.
5. Freshman (kwon) who started in Tahj's place gets injured and is replaced by more FR.
6. Hurst gets injured/leaves and we start FR in his place.
7. Williford gets injured and we start FR in his place. That makes 2 FR on the Oline for those counting.
8. Blue, who's having a breakout season gets injured and we roll with yet another FR in his place.
9. 4+ Freshman are rotated in the secondary and 3+ Freshman LBers are used in the rotation.
10. Our left Tackle who is supposed to protect our brand new QB gets hurt and is replaced by a less athletic 6th year senior who really has no NFL prospectus.
So, when you tally all that up we have:
* 7 starters lost, 3 of which were on the Oline.
* Starting 5 Freshman. (kwon, Mills, Hill, Vadal, Turner) That's not even counting young guys like collins, Martin, Eugene, Debo, and Thompson who we are relying on heavily in the rotations.
* New QB, 3 New OL, New RB. That is a recipe for disaster if I've ever seen one.
If i were to tell you this would all happen back in June, you guys would've all predicted 3-4 losses. The fact that we can finish this season strong at 11-2 with a possible BCS appearance coupled with the fact that we outplayed a very experienced Alabama team with an all world OL, is very fricking impressive.
here is why I'm pumped:
2013----QB returns, RBs all return, WRs all return, Our OLine next will be beast and athletic. WE should return about 9 starters on offense
Defense is playing A LOT of FR right now and I'm pretty sure Reid/Simon will return, along with Kwon alexander. Bama, be afraid. Be very afraid.
The future is so bright Tiger fans:

that's where i had us. as much as people want to blame the two losses on miles, execution this season has been off. players have to make plays. the passign game took turns btwn mett being off and receivers dropping balls.
the o line could never get synched b/c of injuries.
want to know what an inconsistent o line can do to a team? watch the saints game last night. a hapless saints D looked like the 85 bears.

Enjoy watching Alabama play in the SEC Championship and National Championship and Nick Saban hold up LSU's crystal football again and then tell me how sucessful you feel.

Exactly.
I was as upset at the loss as any tiger fan, but I felt proud too at the same time.
The fact that we can start 5 freshman, 2 on the oline, lost 7 starters, start a FR at RB absolutely amazes me by how much we outplayed those bastards.
Having a new QB, an injured and new OL, a FR RB, and losing your best receiver (RR) is an absolute recipe for disaster.

Agree with most of above except that we should have beaten Bama and had an even more wildly successful year. Plus Reid will not be back

Good thoughts. Not so down that i'm looking to next year just yet. Besides, this is three years in a row that we've been told "next year."

do I like seeing them hold it up? No, of course not.
But have some perspective man. Jesus. Look at what we have gone through. This has been the year from hell. if the team doesn't quit and goes out and finishes strong, then you should feel proud. If not, go root for the team who is gonna win the NC every year.
frick. It's not like Bama has dominated us. shite just has been falling together. Don't let it define your life. Have perspective and quit being a fricking pussy.
It's like half the male fans of LSU have turned into the biggest whiny pussies I've ever seen.
So what? Your rivals wins a championship. We held up the SEC championship last year while they sat at home. Did you forget that?

yes, we should have, but the ball didn't bounce our way in addition to a couple of bad coaching decisions.
If we dissected Bama's game just as much as ours, I'm sure we can come up with a laundry list of bad coaching decisions as well.

Maybe. He's not a 1st round pick, i can tell you that much. And honestly, he's been very average this year.

I'm not either. I'm just saying that this year has been wildly successful thus far. WE still have to finish strong though.

When we were told that in 2010, we had a 13-0 run with a SEC championship. Does that count for nothing? The fricking rematch sucked, but that's out of our control, you know? I'll take a SEC championship ANY time. This could've been our year, but sometimes injuries and attrition fricks shite up. This is why a NC is so hard to get and it is what makes 03 and 07 so special.
The run Bama is on with Saban is NOT the norm. He's just an amazing coach and they've had amazing luck along the way, as you need both. (Colt Mccoy injury in 09, stupid fricking rematch in '11)

Good post. Considering the injuries this season, Miles and the staff have done probably their best coaching since he's been here to get the wins we've gotten so far.

I agree. I know LSU fans are tired of hearing about next year (it's like they forget that last year was special too), but what other year has our program been in the shape to start 5 freshman and rotate in 7 more and be this good?
I would venture to say the program is in better shape than it has ever been.

It's not so much that I've changed, it's that I can recognize when it's coaching costing us vs. bad football fortune. (had to borrow a smoke lavalism)
Staff has done pretty good all things considered. I'm sure there are thousands of things they would do differently, but the same could be said of every staff.
That said, they need to keep the PA passes and the 3 WR sets. Mett is a lot more comfortable with those than just throwing out of the I. Hopefully Mett earned their trust.

It really is absurd the number of casualties this team has suffered. The fact that we are still where we are at speaks volumes about our depth.

Add FR Travin Dural who looked like he would get playing time this year goes down with a knee injury during practice in August. He's a very fast, tall athletic receiver that we are also missing this season.
