I dunno, was it smart when Saban had a WR throw the ball last year? Or when he decided to fake a punt on 4th & 23 from his own 20 in the 2009 NC game? Was it stupid when Les decided to run his TE on 4th down a few years ago? Every coach has good and bad gambles. Sometimes the bad calls work and sometimes the good calls fail. I think Les has more good calls than bad.
The only game I thought he coached scared was the Auburn game. And he only did that after Mett took points off the board for us on 1 play and then put points on the board for Auburn on another. look at the A&M game. They contentiously put the ball in Mett's hands. Even after it was established he was having an off day and we could probably run the ball, milk the clock and win.
