Well then they shouldn't hit people after the play and they might ought a think about tackling somebody with a minute left to play. That would help.

I think the OP is trying to say "good is the enemy of great" I think LSU is fine...great game, hard fought, no major injuries...this is from a Bama fan....

We threw for almost 300 yards......how is that Big 10 like?

The future of our program is in the hands of a coach whose philosophy centers around a Big 10 football mentality

A coach who consistently keeps my team in the top 5 and gives my team a legit shot at a title every couple of few seasons and wins one here or there. Is that NOT what you want in a coach?

The 2011 and 2012 LSU football teams should have been hailed as two of the greatest teams in modern college football history. But, due to preventable circumstances, will not be.
Is that acceptable to you?

To appreciate what Les has accomplished, one simply needs to look at next year's roster. Allow me to elaborate.
O - Line Chris Faulk, Lael Collins, Elliot Porter, Trai Turner, Vadal Alexander
TE - Nic Jacobs, Desean Smith
WR - Odel Beckham, Jarvis Landry, Kadron Boone
RB - Jeremy Hill, Alfred Blue, Kenny Hilliary (assuming Spencer Ware goes pro)
QB - Zach Mettenberger
Not Impressed???
D - Line Jamauria Rasco, Anthony Johson, Ego Ferguson, Danielle Hunter
LB - Kwon Alexander, Lamin Barrow, Tahj Jones(?), Lamar Louis, Ronnie Feist (assuming Kevin Minter goes pro)
DB's Jalen Mills, Jalen Collins, Ronnie Martin, Craig Loston (assuming Eric Reid & Tharold Simon go pro) with several others contributing including Micah Eugene
Still not impressed?
Another top 5 recruiting class for 2013 &
potentially a 10-2 record for 2012 as well as another top 5 finish
Not to mention Les's over 81% win/loss percentage, 1 NC W, 1 NC L, 3 SEC Championship Appearances 2 W 1 L -
These are the Golden Days of LSU Football. Anyone who criticizes Les's record or insists he be run out of town, hasn't lived through the 1980's & 1990's. Do a little history of LSU football.
My guess is we finish at 10-2, play in a non-BCS bowl, win that & end up in the final top 5 for 2012.
We start in the top 5 preseason rankings again for 2013.
I'm sure you expect an SEC Championship & NC every year. Most of us are more realistic. I hope Les finishes out his career at LSU. If he does he will enter the LSU Football History books as the "Greatest Coach in LSU History"!
So yes, this is what I want in coach.

we were for almost all of last year. You expect to be #1 all of the time?

quote:You forgot to mention we lost the last two toe to toe meetings with that same team. You also overlooked a mention of coaching decisions as a major factor in both those losses. But if that's ok with you, to lose twice in a row to Alabama, claim a moral (statistical) victory over them like Tulane used to, or make excuses for very poor coaching decisions regularly costing LSU dearly and just rely on the old saw that "he's a great recruiter" (like no one else can recruit?), then you deserve what you get. Just sayin...
We just went toe to toe with the number one team in the country. The direction of the team is fine

I agree. These are the golden days of LSU football. Is our head coach a genius? No, but players love him and he recruits like a mutha. We had prospects on that sideline last night from across the nation, and he's going to bag many of them.

Hopefully Mett came into his own last night... this game will give him great confidence the rest of the way. Open it up like last night, we'll be fine.
That is the one positive that came out of last night. My only concern is that Miles may have opened up the offense this one time because it was Bama. He may decide to go back to the more conservative approach next week, despite the strides that Mettenberger made. There is no doubt that Mett does much better when we go with multiple wideouts over the 2 WR package that we had been running. Let's hope it continues.

We are top five year in year out.

and won the previous two...are you suggesting that a coach should be able to completely eliminate the inevitable ebb and flow of the sport?

quote:I am looking at football dynasties like Spurrier's UF, Bowden's FSU, the Miami of yore, Bryant's Alabama (now Saban's). LSU began its serious stab at greatness under Saban, and it's continued under Miles to some degree. But the previous two wins, prior to the previous two losses to Alabama are "back in the day" already. What is in the immediate present (1/9/12 and 11/2/12) are what I'm noting. And that's current events. So IMO, until this two game loss streak to Alabama is reversed, I'll say "No, the direction of Tiger football is not all up and roses. There are major problems to address if we expect to remain among the present/future elites."

You're not going to be #1 every year and win 4 titles every 5 years.
The previous poster was 100% correct with the ebb and flow of sports. You want to win em all. you strive to win em all. But you won't win em all.

I don't want Les to make STUPID gambles. Going for it on 4th and 1 isn't stupid. Had the snap not been bobbled, we'd have gotten the first. The onside kick didn't hurt us ONLY because BAMA fumbled. Les gave BAMA 2 short fields to work with and it gave them scores.
Les didn't have to gamble at all. He should have trusted his players. Mett was on top of his game. Defense was playing lights out. You don't fake a FG with 12 yards to go. You don't try to run on 3rd and 10.
Maybe if he'd concentrate on coaching instead of earwax...
Yeah, I'm still pissed and my 24 hours isn't up.

I did at the end of the year, yes. Not any more.
LSU has won one NC since 2003 which is great, but even that team tried to choke it away. My expectations are to go 10-2 from here on out, play in the Cotton or Cap One. Anything else will be gravy.
