Recruiting rankings are not an adequate estimator of ability though. And I don't see too many threads about people being ok with our offensive output.

Example may be picking what fits but it is the OP is correct. Defense is more important than offense. If your defense only gives up a small handful of points you are always a lucky break away from winning.
