Why does it seem so many people hate Coldplay?

Every time coldplay is mentioned, it seems like people are really quick to bash them, why is that? is it because they're popular? or because they just aren't fans? I personally think they are pretty damn awesome. I have seen them live and they sound amazing and put on a hell of a show. but why the animosity?
ETA; yes, I know that because I listen to Coldplay, that tells you that I am obviously gay.

some bands are just cool to hate.

I respect what they do but I just never got into their music.

I think it's that they are seen as a watered-down version of Radiohead, who has the honor of being the most critically acclaimed band on earth. They are seen as a band riding a more talented band's coattails, reworking the sound to be more commercial friendly.
For the record, I don't mind Coldplay and I think Radiohead is massively overrated, though I do like them.

As was said before, if I wanted to listen to Radiohead, I'd listen to Radiohead.

No, he doesn't mimick Thom's falsetto at all.

Later as they were warming up 'God Put A Smile Upon Your Face', Martin enthused that it sounded like their “favourite” Radiohead song '2+2=5' and quipped: “Sorry we shouldn't be talking about plagiarism live on radio! Ignore that.”

They are nothing like Radiohead though. Other than they're British. Its like saying, If I wanted to listen to the Rolling Stones, Id listen to the Rolling Stones.

Most people don't really care. It's about what they like, not what the "critics" like.
Like most bands, I like a couple of Coldplay songs, find most of them boring and dislike a few.

In 2005, Martin effused, "We’re like an eager dog just yapping around their heels, and they’re trying to kick us away. It’s like unrequited love. I’m in love with a lot of things. Some of those things love me back. And some of them don’t — and one of them is Radiohead." And as recently as June of last year Martin was quoted in a Rolling Stone interview as saying, “Sometimes I feel like [Radiohead] cleared a path with a machete, and we came afterward and put up a strip mall. I would still give my left ball to write anything as good as OK Computer."

So he looks up to Radiohead. So do I. Whats your point? Have you ever listened to Coldplay or Radiohead? They sound nothing alike.

No, I haven't. Only you have. We'll leave the discussion to you.

Sarcasm, cute. Since they sound so much a like, why dont you post some links to songs that are the same.

Because I don't need to. I never once said they plagiarized Radiohead. Joe Satriani, yes. The band itself admits the giant influence. Not sure why you're unwilling to.
