i'm going to be in paris on October 31 and it looks like PSG will be taking on Marseilles in a league cup match. how hard will it be to get tickets to this match? i've got an email in to the concierge at our hotel, so hopefully they will be able to find some.

Yes I went last season. The tickets were not particularly hard to get as Parisians don't give two shits about their team for the most part. They make Miami people look like Alabama fans. The people who do go are into it though and it's a fun time. We bought them from the ticket office a few days before the match and had no problems (although demand may be up this year with the new additions). Parc De Prince is a beautiful stadium and a really cool experience but it's on the western edge of town and is kind of a pain in the arse to get to.

I did just notice that you said it was against Marsaille which is PSG's main rival so that may or may not make it tougher.

Yeah I was about to say that. Here is a documentary about a PSG-Marseille game. LINK

Also, just a general tip, learn how to say "I apologize but I don't speak French, do you speak English?" in French. I never once ran into a rude French person when saying that. Being respectful of their culture and language (which they are very proud of) goes a really long way with French people. Also, don't wait to be seated when you go to a cafe, just sit down wherever you want.

my wife will not be watching that. i've got her convinced that we are more likely to see a pillow fight than mass brawling.

I don't think there will be mass brawling. It will be a tense atmosphere though.

Yeah they have taken steps to make the games more family friendly than they have been in recent years as well as drive out the supremacist element that was attending PSG games for awhile. They seem to have bailed when the Arabs bought the team though.

French people are pretty slow as far as ticket buying goes, but I still wouldn't risk it. Marseille Paris is a huge rivalry, but there won't be many l'OM fans there - they are banned from the trains on the days of the match because of the violence that has occurred between these fan groups in the past. It should be a good time.

I had tickets to the PSG-Lyon match last April but the game was moved.

In general I agree. It's mostly a Parisian thing. But that said there were plenty of snobby, pro-French/anti foreigner people in Marseille.

I meant, there's a league (ligue) and a cup (coupe de France or whatever they call it). They are different competitions. Check them both.
ETA Yeah, I see. You've got them all there.

i can't tell if you're trying to be a dick or not. the only match being played while i'm in paris is the "french league cup" match between PSG and Marseilles, so i won't be able to make it to a ligue match.
i'm going to be in italy during a few serie a matches, so hopefully i'll be able to make it to one of those too.
