Hopefully we will see boca in the center and parkhurst on the left against Guatemala.

Well you'd also think that our coaches would learn.
Arenas first used Boca as LB. hahaha
Bradley tried Boca as LB. hahahaha
Now, Klinsmann has used Boca as LB hahahahaha
Granted we haven't had much depth at LB. But it's never worked.

Boca looked decent in the LB spot under Bradley. He was a bit younger and our ok CB situation at the time allowed him to play there. And he was better than Bornstein.
I wonder what kind of game we'll get Tuesday. Guate and the US both advance with a tie, so it could be a yawn fest.
Also, it just occurred to me that the MLS was responsible for both goals and both assists against A&B. Good signs.

Bocanegra probably looks great at US practice playing LB. However, every other national team coach on the planet employs pace on the wings. We (apparently) have evolved past needing pace on the outside.
I can't see how anyone is remotely surprised that a 33 year old CB has trouble keeping up on the outside.

Who would you play on the wing?

In our current situation? If we play the formations we have been playing (4-3-3 or 4-1-3-2) I would either put Dempsey, Zusi, EJ, or Gomez out wide. Dempsey scored many more goals for Fulham last year playing wide left in the 4-2-3-1 than he did in any other position.
In an ideal world, I would like to see Beasley get called up again and Gatt debut for the nats. I wouldn't mind seeing Jozy there either, as he often plays (well) there for AZ. I would even take Brek Shea as a bench player because he plays much better for the Nats than he does with his club. We have lots of wing options, but I'm not convinced Jurgen sees it that way.

Of those, only EJ has "pace", and that's where JK played him after taking all kinds of crap for calling him up at all.
The only midfielders Bob used towards the end that JK is not using now are Adu, Clark, and Bedoya. I would call up Adu, but that's because he was in a commercial 10 years ago. The others, no.

No, we don't. Gatt's an option for the near future. Beasley is a past option who hasn't impressed when called up lately.
JK planned to enter this WC qualifying cycle with Shea and Donovan as his wingers. Shea fizzled out, and Donovan has been unavailable. JK has been making due. He tried to call in Gatt prior to the last round, but you can't blame him for not relying on him in these must-win situations.
JK's big screw-up this round was starting Edu, Beckerman, and Jones together in Jamaica, but he seems to have learned that lesson.
And you never would have seen that with MB and Donovan available. Bob had those two in every important match since at least 2009. That's a huge difference.
I'm not saying JK has done great, but the criticism is out of hand. As if he doesn't want a good wing option. As if it's his fault the best players have been unavailable.

Helpful, but not a prerequisite to be a winger.
Also, people thought EJ was past his prime. He was considered "unfit" in Liga MX while Beasley has done very well there.

True.
I mean, it's not like the US has a young, athletic full back playing in the EPL, or a wildly talented forward leading the Eredivisie in scoring at 23. Players like that don't grow on trees.
We HAVE to call in Michael Parkhurst and Alan Gordon.
Give me a fricking break.

We should never have had to resort to playing Carlos at LB. That falls on Klinsmann.
Lichaj was getting looks (ie that game against Poland) under BB while getting less playing time in the EPL than he currently does. How did he perform? Very well, actually. I'm sure his speed could have helped us against A&B (I don't think they would have scored). Also, he makes good runs forward.

quote:Thank you! I have been screaming for Jurgen to call him up. Lichaj is a promising young player who is also very versatile. He has played LB, RB, and even some midfield for Villa. Bob our resident Villa fan could tell you a bit more about him.

Are you like this in real life?
You have to admit that not having Landon has been a drag on the team's performance and outside of JK's control.
With Landon and MB, we don't lose to Jamaica. Would Lichaj have made the difference in that match? Maybe.
Jozy started that match, played 70 minutes and didn't make any difference. Granted, he didn't get any service, and that's because our midfield sucked. Gomez and Dempsey still found a way to make an impact.

Lichaj is the one inexplicable snub IMO.

Jozy has played plenty for JK and done basically nothing. He will play again. JK left him out of this selection, after Jozy played like crap the time before and then went on Twitter and called JK incompetent. It's been explained a hundred times, and you're still acting like you're breaking news talking about it.

We HAVE to call in Alan Gordon.
Altidore: 5 appearances in 2012, 1 assist, 0 goals
Gordon: 27 minutes in 2012, 1 assist, 0 goals
Funny that you're still hating on the decision to call him in after that game. As if he was the reason we struggled, and as if Jozy would have made all the difference.
By the way, we're leading the group. Without Landon for 3 matches, without MB for 2 matches, without Bob ball, without Bornstein. It's not all bad.

come on, that's irrelevant until the end of Bob's tenure.
Boca played left back for Fulham too, you going to call their manager out.
He's lost a step, so he's not as capable as he once was, but don't try and act like he was always garbage on the outside.

You mean being right all of the time?
Usually.
You seem to be forgetting about Jurgen calling in Robbie Rogers and snubbing Bradley at the beginning of his tenure.
Not calling in your most talented players ONCE is a poor decision. Doing it repeatedly shows poor decision making ABILITY.
