So we're down to playing 2 freshmen on the Oline...

Turner and Vadal. Add Collins as a soph and this line is as young as they come. This just isn't going to allow us to get it done. We're simply not going to be able to run consistently nor have adequate time to throw. There aren't many options left for an offense that desperately needed a solid line for Mett to get his feet wet behind. I think many don't understand the necessity of a good line. The last time I saw a line this poor was the year after Alan Faneca left for the NFL. I believe we also lost Adam Perry and Ben Bordelon that year. Rondel Mealey had run all over defenses the year before but he and Herb Tyler were stymied behind a poor O line. It wasn't the scheme or the skill players we simply had no line. That season stunk. Unless something changes quickly this could continue to go downhill.

If we were the number 2 rated O-line tandem in the country we should only drop to around number 20 now

A perceived strength became a weakness quickly.

Agree. Our OL needs some serious help.

What class is Porter? He's been getting playing time when Lonergan gets hurt.

When we were healthy we were not impressive!

Not how it works. You lose starters- especially your anchor- all bets are off.

Some one gets it!!!!
Add poor offensive coaching and we have a losing trend up and coming.

I thought about him too. He's a soph. It's possible we'll have 2 freshmen and 2 sophs at times. That's ridiculously scary.

we are quickly going to discover about this "depth" we are supposed to have.

When you lose a guy like Faulk before the season- you're never "healthy" after that. But we did run all over people early on. Even though they were weak opponents.

2009 was bad.

Yes, poor coaching and like the other threads indicate, Stud must take responsiblity here. At the least, a new OL coach is needed. I have always considered him the weakest link on LSU's coaching staff. He surely should not be OC as well--a new OC with strong credentials is needed.
I think Collins, Turner and Vadal could all three be outstanding and better coaching for them would be a great thing.

My assertion is not poor coaching on our line. No one could sustain these type injuries and have adequate depth. Not for SEC defenses. The young guys will probably be good in time but there's no way you can expect a staff to have freshmen linemen ready now. It's one of the toughest areas to prepare for.

LSU has to make adjustments to those injuries. Find a way to mask the problems.

Unless you are Alabama and they just recruit better than we do and could plug in 5 freshman on the o-line, run against anyone for 300 yards and no QB sacks...

Suggestions? You can go to a shotgun and try to hit quick passes (if and I mean IF our wr's can catch them) but you have to be able to run the ball. I do think if the TE Jacobs can keep catching the ball he'll be a weapon coming off the line.

The first drive.
Quick passes. TE involvement.
