You don't think Jupton's 2011 was putting it together?
BJ, I can see. I suspect he'll be mostly the same player he was his last few years in TB, which is still good.

Jair signed with the Orioles

But hopefully Hudson can stay healthy, Minor will pitch like he did in the second half, Medlen can come close to what he did last year, and Teheran can be better than Hanson...which would not be difficult.
Plus we're adding Walden to the bullpen with Kimbrel, EOF, and hopefully a vintage Venters

I am hoping that BJ sees a bit of an uptick with the change of scenery. I don't think he was well liked in Tampa nor did he like his teammates.

quote:That was as close as he has come, but no I don't think that is the best he has to offer. That season he did bulk of the damage at home (yes I know the thing you posted on home/road splits) but a .300 OPS difference is a large gap difference. He only hit 11 home runs on the road that season and 20 at home despite having 10 more AB on road and his avg ad almost a 100 point difference home and away.

Honestly I don't see any reason he couldn't have a 35/25 season with a .300 avg and .360 OBP and a Top 3 MVP season with his talent

He's only 25. He's got plenty of time

Well that puts them over the top.

But hopefully Hudson can stay healthy
quote:Braves fans better hope so or at least find a medium between his 1st and 2nd half. It is a good thing he isn't the ace but a decent back end starter.
Minor will pitch like he did in the second half
quote:He is lightening up in Dominican league I read. Depends on how Braves tinker with his motion. They did last year and it had horrible results. They are said to be letting him pitch his way again and results have improved. Only issue is he has a violent delivery and could be susceptible for injury.
Teheran can be better than Hanson

Well, me either, but I guess this is just parsing words.
That season is rarefied air for 23 year old (only like 12 guys ever matched his SLG% and HR total).
So do I think he could do more? Yes. But I don't think that doesn't mean "he hasn't put it all together" yet is fair, either.
But again, probably just the difference in how two people read that sentence.

Agreed. I have a lot of faith that he "figured it out," though.
More worried about Medlen repeating, honestly.

Teheran scares me. But I'm holding out hope.

Minor could be Braves version of Hughes, as Hughes looked better over second half than first.

I think Minor will be fine. It wasn't anything with his mechanics or anything. He just started trying to do too much when someone got on base and it snowballed on him from there. Even when he was struggling he would sit down 8 or 9 in a row to start the game and look good doing it...then a guy would lead off with a double and shite would take a turn.
Medlen has always pitched like he did last year from what I have seen. Maybe not with those kind of results, but he has always been a high K/low BB guy who is able to throw all of his pitches for strikes.

Blast From the Past Braves Fans
quote:
Andy Marte was supposed to be a beast. Signed by the Braves when he was 16, he excelled in leagues where he was way younger than the competition. He posted an OPS of .831 in the Sally League when he was only 18. He posted an .840 OPS in an extreme pitchers park in the high-A Carolina league when he was 19. At age 20 he played at double-A Greenville and notched an .889 and the next year he had an .878 in Triple-A at the age of 21.
You do that, at those ages, in those leagues, and your future should be bright. Except then Marte totally dropped off a cliff.
He was totally overmatched in his first big league callup and then the Braves shipped him to Boston for Edgar Renteria. A month later Boston shipped him to Cleveland in the Coco Crisp deal. Cleveland gave him several chances to earn the third base job, but he simply could not hit in the bigs and even regressed in the minors, save for one season in Columbus when he was 25. Since then he’s just floated, last seen in the Pirates organization in 2011 and out of baseball entirely, it seems last year.
Now he’s signed with the York Revolution of the independent Atlantic League.

Jesus...did they replace his arm with a machine? If that's the case he could be back in June.
