Would yall agree that more mental stuff is "scarier" than flat out gruesome/gross right?

And as far as best horror goes that would simply mean the best movie overall right? Plot, Acting, Killing scenes, etc.. not necessarily whether or not it was the scariest? Or maybe the best should be the scariest? I don't know the rules here..

I don't think Let the right one in was as good as advertised. Scream was a classic and deserves to be up there. I haven't seen enough horror to know tho.

Has anyone seen the movie Inside?

Yeah. I liked it. There were some good kills.

I think Seven deserves mention. Is that considered horror or crime thriller though?

Good post.

I've said this many times before on this board, but I think it is undeniable that the Blair Witch Project is the best and scariest horror movie in the last 20 years.

Many of the movies on people's lists are not that scary, just fun to watch. Saw was ground breaking. Scream was just a commentary.

Blair Witch Project is the best in my opinion because, like the text I quoted mental is far more scary than gore. To me, the Blair Witch Project captured that better than any other horror film. I could care less about the supernatural part/existence of the Witch. The part that is so scary to me is when they are lost and they can't find their way out. The video camera and acting are so well done in those moments where they build their hopes up and then reach such desperation that give me chills because that is a fear that is a real fear. I don't get fear of monsters and other things, but fear of the unknown and being alone are pretty potent.

Show me another film that does it better than Blair Witch Project. I guess Funny Games is good because it makes you feel helpless because the family is helpless.

Just my two cents. I could go on more about the Blair Witch Project if need be. Just know that it belongs at the very top of this list, and it's not debatable.
