I prefer this not to happen. I actually have some very cool ceramic sectioned plates that I use a lot for this reason. I don't mind the roast and rice 'n gravy touching because it's all the same, but I don't want the juice from the peas or the dressing from the salad running into my gravy or on my protein or other sauce. I want to taste the individual flavors. If I wanted them all together I would have cooked them in one pot or pan.
This is why I detest the habits of restaurants piling the proteins atop a starch or vegetable for presentation. I like the juices from the protein to be with the protein, for the most part, rather than consumed by some filler mash potatoes.

I feel the same way about wanting to taste the individual flavors.
My section plate is a white plastic plate with farm animals on it and the ABC's printed around it.
