How does manually flipping the bail help?
Like, always flip it manually after a cast?

Yes. You should always manually flip the bell instead of just turning the handle to flip it. Also should pull back on the rod slightly before reeling to take the slack out.

When you engage it with handle you put a twist in your line when bail travels around. Same thing applies while fighting a fish, if its taking drag don't reel otherwise you'll be putting a twist in the line. These are some of the tips I got from KVD, so I consider it credible.

Makes sense...
I'll give the bail flip a shot.
Getting my little brain to do anything different when there's a fish on the hook is whole different matter...
