re: We can still go 14-2

D-line can't get pressure, the LB's can't tackle, and the DB's can't cover.... Until that changes we are 8-8 or worse.

Face it, Goddell won! he cut the head of the monster off when he suspended Payton. We lost our leader and it shows in spades, no spark, turnovers, no excitement to play, no nothing. When he suspended Payton, he stuck a knife in our chest and twisted it. 9-7 at best.

I think it's more 8-8 to 10-6 myself. 9 or 10 wins can get you in the playoffs.
Agreed. We can be the wild card type Giants team that turns it on late season or in the playoffs if we get in.
I just hope everyone realizes we are going to inevitably start
1-3. We'll beat the Chiefs and then lose @ Green Bay.
However, I hope I'm wrong...

Sure it is possible, but have you actually watched this team the first 2 weeks?
They look much more likely to go 2-14.
Given what I've seen in 2 games, they will be fortunate to go 8-8

I don't think so. One thing I will point out is that in the Pre-season we played a team better than both of these, The Texans, who might be the best team in the AFC. I know it's pre-season, but it was a game in which both starters played the entire first half. We were neck and neck with them, and that was with Vitt as coach. Vitt is much more like Payton demanding attention, while I like Kromer, he is like a Jim Caldwell. I think we will see much more attention to detail with Vitt because the guy demands it, he is an in your face type of coach. There were good things to take away from this game, but we absolutely have to pull out a few wins before Vitt returns to have a chance. The NFC is so open this year, full of good teams that will beat up on one another. If we can get to 2-4 in the first six we give ourselves a shot, anything better than that and I think we have a really good shot at getting into the playoffs.
I am as upset as anyone right now, and I am realistic enough to know that we are in a hole. However, I do see some sense of optimism. I am slicing it every way I can trying to figure out what can happen, looking at this from every which way possible. It'll be tough, and I am really looking at this not as a homer but as a realist. This can be turned around. We aren't playing for a number 1 seed, we are playing to get into the dance.

Well if you re evaluate the schedule after watching almost 2 full weeks of NFL. I don't see us winning more than MAYBE 2 games before the bye. KC and possibly SD. After that, do you really feel confident we can beat Denver, Tampa, Philly and ATL? Will beat Oakland. SF is going to house us. Then NYG , ATL again, Tampa, Dallas and Carolina to end the season. So lets be nice and say we split all of our division games. Beat ATL, CAR and Tam at home. With the KC and OAK Ws and take one out of Dal and NYG. And let's say we take one of SD and Philly. Thats 7-9.

I give us a chance against anyone at home no matter who the opponent is to be honest. I don't think San Francisco destroys us in the dome.
4 of our tougher games are in prime-time, where for some reason this team plays their best.
Chargers - Sunday Night (Brees looking for Unitas Record)
Eagles - Monday Night Football
Broncos - Sunday Night ( I think we lose this one )
Atlanta - Thursday Night ( Could go either way, I will guess it'll be close because of the bad blood toward one another )

I'm sticking to my original 12-4. Although it's not realistic at this points.
I'm confused about the Defense. I thought they were starting out well against Carolina. Just to compare, they did look a bit better yesterday than last week. But still have a long way to go.
Lofton is all over the place. He's doing his job.
The offense looked better yesterday as well. They aren't firing on all cylinders at this point, but I see improvement on both sides. We shall see.

They handled GB at Lambeau, it wont be much better at the dome. At least GBs defense is a little better. That SF game could get ugly.
Basically like I said, we split our division games. Split two of the four of Philly, Dallas, Giants and Chargers. I dont think we have a chance with Denver, based solely on their pass rush and our O Line.

Yes I watched the first 2 games. I was just trying to be optimistic.

Like I said in an earlier post Brees will get his timing with the receivers back and the defense will play better (can't get much worse, knock on wood). Like I said earlier I still see us as 10 or 11 win team. We can still win our division nobody has looked that impressive(waiting on falcons tonight) in the nfc south.
Atleast we aren't Oakland that traded mult 1st rounders for Carson Palmer and his shitting on their hopes and dreams LINK

7-9. 9-7 at best. Starting out 0-2, with this defense, a 9-5 run would be pretty damn good.

returning in here after since it looks like the most positive post on the board and some of the regulars are throwing out life preservers to keep this thing afloat...
Yesterday it was curious looking in here. It seems like the worse a loss the more an entirely different crowd of posters seem to take over. The good part is that by Wednesday they're generally gone again.
For me it is mostly a transition from expectation to hope. Start a roll again next week, get to a winning record, and expectations will rise again. Until then hope is still in place. There is still plenty of basis for it...
Most prolly know the 12% historical record of 0-2 teams making the playoffs. To temper this consider other facts as well-
-3 of those 0-2 playoff teams won the SB, last being NYG in 2008.
-if the dirty birds lose tonight the Saints are only one game out of first place
-scanned the past 5 years playoff records:
teams 7-9 1 division title
teams 8-8 2 division titles
teams 9-7 3 division titles & 6 wildcard berths
-ten wildcard teams have gone to the Super Bowl. Four of those have won the SB
Last year's Giants had the prototypical season for fan's to not give up hope. Remember the Saints smacking them down 49-24? That was the third loss of a 4 game losing streak that had them at 6-6. In Week 15 they lost to the Rex Grossman led Redskins 10-23 and stood at 7-7. Their playoff hopes didn't look too great matched up with the 15-1 Packers & 13-3 Saints & Niners.
The magic home field Super Bowl dream may not be achieved by a first seed roll through the playoffs. It may be the unlikely path as the teams mentioned above. The NFC South may turn into a brawl with a 9-7 winner. You know the rest.
Season expectations lowered? Uh huh. End result hope banished? Not at all.

They had 500+ offense yesterday and the defense, although looked terrible, made some stops.
I work with a guy that came in this morning and first rattle out of the box ...."Saints Suck!!!".
So I politely told him that if they win next week, don't come in here talking about how good they are. You lost the right to say that after your last statement. It's amazing how people are so quick to say they suck just because they aren't dominating early in a season. Especially THIS season.
So if people want off the ship, jump off. But don't expect a ladder to be thrown down when you wanna climb back on.
