they shouldnt have to honor it.

The key to this lawsuit is:
"the play is certified and recorded as such by the Designated Event governing officials"
Basically, it all depends on how the NFL records it in their records.

1. Eligible player on designated return team (all 11 players are eligible - check)
2. 1st punt (check)
3. touchdown (check)
4. receives and returns (depends on definition)

Did he, technically, receive a punt or did he receive a punt block?

Does it matter? The wording says receives. It was punted, it was blocked, it was received by our player, it was then returned for a touchdown.
No where in the language does it say the ball had to cross the line of scrimmage. Never said he had to receive a punt that went 30 yards.
By all rights they punted the ball to us, then we stopped it before it crossed the LOS, then we received it, then we returned it for a TD.

None of what you said matters. The NFL didn't rule it a punt return for a TD. You can slice it all you want, but the rules clearly stated that it has to be officially recorded as a punt return TD. It was not.

It should count! Think of it this way, what if we would have only "tipped" the punt when blocking and it still would have went 30 yds and our guy catches it on the run and scores a td.
It is the exact same thing, excepts it was soundly blocked

Saints scored a td on the punt, end of story.

A blocked punt is not and has never been considered a punt return.

The ball must cross the line of scrimmage in order to be considered a kick.
But I think that in order to maintain good business, Olindes should honor the deal anyway and not be so damned technical.

This has nothing to do with Olindes honoring it or not. The Insurance Company they are working this through has the final say so. This was clearly not by any sane persons account,a punt return for a TD. The fact that many people have the want to "get over on the man with their hand out" is whats gotten this country in the shape it is now...........

if i had purchased furniture,i would have no problem with it. If the NFL stats don't say punt return for TD then it wasn't a punt return for a TD. It was a blocked punt RECOVERED for a TD. i.e. as clarified by NFL rules, it never crossed the LOS, therefore making it a recovery not a reception.

Equating this to a punt return for a td would be like equating a sack and fumble return to an interception return.

Shouldnt be any different than when the punt returner fumbles the ball and then picks it back up and runs it in for a touchdown!

Shouldnt matter that it was blocked ...what matters is it was "punted" and "returned" for a "touchdown"

bump
Whats the latest on this? Did anyone get PAID!
IMO you can't have a "blocked punt" if there wasn't a punt.
And the NFL does record the yardage of the "return" of a blocked punt.....ie, blocked and returned 35 yds to the 1...
