re: Did you know that Mett threw for more yards in his first start than JJ or JL did

I freaking hope you are being sarcastic.
JJ was the worst QB I have ever seen start. What did he throw for, 83 yards in the last two games combined? Agree with the earlier poster - his yardage stats do not tell the whole story of how poor of a QB he was.

for some reason he couldn't make reads at all

Good point. Losing all of those 30+ games still hurts.
I wonder why Miles stuck with him?
Do you think that he was secretly trying to kill the LSU program?
Or was Miles playing him just to see how many of you football experts he could pizz off?
I mean how else do you explain how he continued to play JJ after losing game after game after game?
Everybody knows that passing stats are what determines who wins or loses games, right?
That point stuff is old school isn't it?

This coach threw more passes in this game than he will in any big game. He will run and run and run more. So, enjoy. There is a reason our QB's don't throw for any yards. Oh, Towson is on our schedule. Enjoy.

just for those who think we are doomed
And we were not doomed last year?
Dude, Michigan threw for more yardage against Alabama. And they have a running QB.

We also are ranked in the top 30 in total offense for the 1st time in bout 4+ seasons and after being ranked no better than 78 in total O at any time last yr.
500+ yds of O, 26 pass plays for almost 200 yds, and a 73% complete rate...yeah, thats a 1st game of the season performance to be disappointed over.

Also. If we don't give up a 80 yard TD we probably hold them to fewer yards then any game last season.

It really would not matter how many times Mett did or didnt pass for, the dude has a rocket for an arm. He will come along just fine, he made one throw down the middle on a line that neither of the prior qb's could have even attempted... What I was most impressed with was seeing Landry make some great catches...

Damn our QBs really did suck last year.

the offense had over 500 yards. first time since 2007. jj nor jl never led offense to that many yards. mett is far superior to either of those guys. Miles was correct in letting mett throw short high-percentage passes to build up his confidence. miles was also correct in featuring landry to try and develop a no. 2 receiver. as it stands now, if obj goes down then it doesn't matter how good mett is since the other wrs are not ready for sec play yet.

While I was no fan of JJ, he was by far better than:
1. Marcus Randle
2. Sol Graves
3. Spracino
4. Hatch...Orin, or Andrew, or whoever he was
5. Chad Loupe
6. Carl Otis Trimble
That's off the top of my head.

Id take Randall and Loupe over JJ anyday of the week.

The "Miles' strategy" the past 2 seasons appears to have been one seeking to limit the damage to the teams W/L record that could come from inconsistent QB play.
After seeing bout every game LSU played the past 4 yrs, I can't blame LSU for using such a strategy.
While coaching impacts a players performance, both our SR QBs from last season were more impacted in their LSU career by their own inconsistent play between the lines than anything else. imo

I agree the QB's play affected coaching strategy, not th eother way around. But JJ regressed as a Tiger. He rarely showed improvement. That lies at coaching.

Not the JL/JJ thing again. Please make it go away.

You're right. I am ashamed for biting.
