IMO, the ultimate kids rifle is a remington 700 with a youth stock in 7mm-08. Full sized stocks are a dime a dozen for when the kid outgrows the stock. They'll never outgrow the caliber.
good advice...excellent rifle...
you can always up the caliber to .270 instead of .243 and just buy him the Remington "managed recoil" ammunition.
My son can shoot all day with those and he'll never flinch when pulling the trigger.
