Hey guys,

Seems like TigerDroppings is the pre-eminent LSU football destination on the Internet so thought I'd ask you a few questions about a trip me and some friends are planning in November.

The plan is to make a big trip down to New Orleans during a fall school break and come down to LSU for the November 10th game vs. Mississipi State. Our plan is to get into New Orleans Thursday night and go out on the town, catch the Hornets-Bobcats game on Friday (will be a joke game, I know), LSU game on Saturday and then the Saints-Falcons game on Sunday afternoon and return on Monday or Tuesday.

We've never been to a college football game as we are from Canada but we are all gigantic sports fans and it seems to be nearly unanimous that LSU has the best college game day atmosphere so we thought it was a must to check out.

Just some logistic stuff I was wondering about - is there buses coming in from NO on game day or is it better to rent a car for the Saturday? What is the best way to arrange our transportation, how is the traffic, etc? And will the game be in the evening?

I know tailgating is a big thing. Is this something we should participate in being 4 random dudes from Canada? Should we bring our own stuff and is there a specific area that would be best for us to do this in? I have heard of pre-game stuff being pretty big and the spectacle of it all, is there anything specific we should be looking to do/experience?

I was also wondering if it is a good idea or not to stay after the game in Baton Rouge and get a hotel so we can party and drink on campus (or somewhere else?) and then leave Sunday morning back to NO for the Saints game. If there is no buses I'm guessing this is the best option as all of us will likely want to have a few drinks. Just some background, we are all 20-25 year old males.

Any other tips are more than welcome, we are complete rookies and just want to soak in and experience the college football culture to its fullest!

Thanks in advance.

Wear purple and gold and enjoy the ride....get there at least 4 hours before the game. Walk around and introduce yourself, where you are from amd that its your first game. They will treat you like one of their own and give you all the food and drink you can handle.

Have fun man

Eta: stay in baton rouge after the game and party

Rookie, lots of good questions and we're looking forward to hosting you and your buddies. You'll have a great weekend no doubt. Don't know of any busses from NO on game day so probably just rent a car for the day. Maybe bring an ice chest and some munches but nothing big (food-wise). Just walk around before the game and introduce yourselves to those cooking food and you'll get offered a thing or two. Btw, it's ok to have open containers of your alcoholic drink of choice but do not walk around with bottles.

Have fun.

Go early, soak in every moment, walk around the stadium before you go in, be conscious of the history that has been made on the ground you will be walking. Be there when the band marches down Victory Hill, feeling the shaking in your bowels as the drumline thunders by. Make absolute sure you walk slowly from the ramp toward the field, because that first time the field opens before your eyes, is an awe-inspiring moment you will never forget. Don't hold back the tears as the butterflies well within you, when TGBFTL booms those notes that sets off a roar like you've never heard before. Feel the hair stand on back of your neck as 90+K people become one mighty roaring beast. You only have one first trip to Tiger Stadium, which you will never forget, so make it a beautiful one. And after all that, enjoy watching our Tigers stomp a mud hole in MSU!!

I would rent a car for day for sure, no need to worry about taking a cab/bus to and from. The game will most likely be at 7 PM, so I would show up around 12-1. If its at 2:30, I would show up at around 10. Bring a rolling ice chest or something to keep beer/drinks in. There will be more than enough food around, just wear purple and gold and introduce yourselves and you will be free to anything you like.

As for which areas to go to, really anywhere will be fun. Once you get to campus you will just see people everywhere. If i had to say I would recommend by the Indian Mounds/Parade Grounds (East side of stadium), or really anywhere along Nicholson Dr. (west side). Mike's cage is between the north endzone and Pete maravich basketball arena. That is where the band/team will walk down before the game.

For after the game, just go south down Nicholson dr. and you will see plenty of bars/restaurants packed with people. Pretty hard to miss. Good luck

Keep an eye on the game time. LSUsports.net still shows the gametime for this one as TBA. Its Homecoming so maybe they will leave it at a night time slot.
