Bryan Kehl Speculation

Jason La Canfora is already reporting that "several" teams are interested in him. He suggests the Saints as a possible trading partner.
Kehl was selected in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. The Giants traded up (from 130 to 123 overall) by swapping picks with the Pittsburgh Steelers and giving up one of their sixth round picks (194 overall). He was placed second on the depth chart as weak side linebacker behind Gerris Wilkinson. Kehl made his first NFL start on October 26 for the injured Gerris Wilkinson when the Giants beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh. Bryan got his first interception of his NFL career in this game. He picked off Steeler's quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and ran it back for 17 yards. Kehl was waived by the Giants on September 14, 2010.
Kehl was claimed off waivers by the St. Louis Rams on September 15, 2010.
---the Spags connect the dots potential. He appeared in 28 games in 2 years for STL
On April 23, 2012, Kehl signed with the Washington Redskins. For the team's 3-4 defensive scheme, he switched from an outside linebacker to an inside linebacker to play a backup role to London Fletcher and Perry Riley. Kehl was cut on August 31, 2012 for final cuts before the start of the 2012 season.
add Yasinskas after the final cuts-
I’ve got a strong suspicion the Saints will bring in a linebacker (maybe two) from somewhere else in the next few days.

Might be worth a pickup just for some insight into the Washington defense, alignments/adjustments, on field terminology, etc

I wonder if Hawthornes injury is more serious.

The bad part is that Vitt (the no BSer) said Lofton would likely be ready for Week 1 but refused to put any timetable on Hawthorne. The good side is that he stayed in the game even after the tear happened. So hopefully it is more to the minor end than major.
Might just be an upgrade over Humber. And like Murphy, he has the edge of being familiar with the Spags scheme. Humber might still be PS eligible and bump Ezra Butler too.

quote:If Kehl just got cut, why would we be possible "trading partners?" I assume right now the guy is free to sign with whomever he chooses.

the post was before the cuts were made, as in maybe get a 7th for him rather than cut. Kinda like the Ivory/Cadet talk here before cuts.
