Perhaps he would have reinvented himself over time, as Eric Clapton has, to become a blues/rock elder statesman. That, as opposed to other musicians (Steven Tyler comes to mind) still wearing wild clothes in their 60s and trying (failing) to keep the look of their youth.
An interesting thought is the impact his living might have had on SRV's career, since Stevie may have had a harder time getting acceptance of his covers of Hendrix songs with Jimi still around. Who knows? They may have collaborated like SRV and Albert King with it being a huge success.
