I just can't see Mett making a real run at it this year. I don't think his leash will be long enough. We might win a lot of games, but he's just not going to have the stats to be in real contention. We emphasize the run too much for that.
Miles has stated numerous times that they are going to open it up this year. If he backs out on that he will pay a big price in recruiting. After the QB debacle last year CLM and the staff realized that they have to make the program more attractive to big recruits if they expect to get any national rated QB's or WR's.
Contrary to popular belief CLM threw it all over the place in his first couple of yrs at OkSt.

It's not like we're going to line up 5 wide in the shotgun. "Open it up" is a relative term. We're not an Air Raid team, and with our personnel we shouldn't pretend to be.
We threw the ball on average 19.9 times per game last year; I can't see that mark going up significantly. I could see a slight climb to about 22 attempts per game, though. I also think "open it up" could be indicative of the types of throws we try to make. With our running game as strong as it is, we should be able to take a few more shots downfield, especially off of play action. That absolutely qualifies as opening it up in my estimation.
As for the big price in recruiting, have you ventured over to the recruiting board? We've landed a ton of outstanding verbal commitments for 2013 and are nearing a full class. We've even got kids from 2014 giving commitments. Kids who come to LSU don't come to LSU because they want to run the spread or whatever offense (or defense, for that matter) is currently fashionable. They come to LSU because they want to WIN.
