Brienne's "word" to UnCat

From "So Spake Martin":

quote:

...at miscon 2012, george r.r. martin read not one but two chapters from winds of winter! he also answered a pressing and important question: what word did brienne of tarth scream in feast for crows?

<George R.R. Martin> turned the question on the audience and asked if anyone had figured it out - we shouted all kinds of dumb stuff, “jaime”, “sapphires”, etc. but some other genius in the second row said “sword”! george confirmed that the word brienne screamed was “sword”; lady stoneheart gave brienne the choice of either swearing her sword to her or being hung, saying “sword or noose”, and as brienne was being hanged she screamed “sword”

Was watching a rerun of last week's show last night...really wondering if Martin (and Weiss et al) use the show as a way to emphasize things from the books/ add stuff Martin didn't include but wishes he had...

Speaking of The Others, WTF is the deal with these:

(S1)

(S3) - "Always the artists" - Mance

The first design (bad angle - wish I could find a better one) almost looked to be a rune or hieroglyph of some sort.
The second one could be as well...but it looks more or like a "crop circle"

Is this a hint at something about the Others?
If so, why not mentioned in the books?

If they are aliens...

Ah, that makes sense. I knew Sword was on of the more probable words being proposed.

It also fits with Brienne trying to draw Jamie off somewhere after that. I hope Brienne does not end up being Jamie's downfall in the end though. I'd rather see her break her oath to UnCat (that bitch)
