Man I hope I didn't just spoil my coworkers GoT. When did Aemon and Sam go on the ship and Aemon dies? Was I vividly remembering this and put it with show characters or did it happen in the show?

Fairly certain that doesn't happen until late in the series. Well after book 2. You probably just spoiled something for your co-worker.
ETA: Yeah, that happens in Feast. Hasn't happened on the show yet, I don't believe.
