I just finished watching season 4 and can't believe how far ahead in the story it's gone. I'm re-reading the series and just finished the first book. Mainly because I can't remember it all. Lol

Nah dude I totally agree. Ever since about 04 when I realized he was being a lazy pos, I moved past the anger phase and have moved to just being grateful I have something else besides D&E to bide the time
Still gets mildly annoying even though I'm used to waiting

I love how people who have likely never written anything longer than a crappy 10 page term paper call out an author that has produced an amazing array of books. WOIAF is mostly being worked on by he westeros.org people. Honestly, if GRRM can't get into the story again, I would rather he not finish it than turn out half-arse attempts. I know some would characterize Feast and Dance as that, but I actually like both. However, I thought there was something completely off about the Arya chapter he released and it worries me.

I'm not calling him out for taking his time. I'm calling him out for doing everything else but work on the next book. When was dance with dragons released? 2011?
Btw my papers were not crappy and I've done more than 10 pages.

I love Feast. Dance not so much. In fact it's the only one I've never reread. Just because I've never written a novel(well technically I wrote one but its embarrassingly bad so I don't count it) doesn't mean I can't be aggravated that one of my favorite series takes most of my young adult years to finish.

How come Sarella hasn't been cast yet? She's pretty damn important considering she's at the Citadel...

I doubt she'll play a large role in the show because of the mystery around her.

I'm excited about the World of Ice and Fire but it would be nice for Martin to actually finish TWoW. Time isn't on his side.
Martin is following the Robert Jordan series outline to a tee. Start off awesome, lose your way half way through the series, start taking forever to put out books, put out prequel stories and now a backstory/maps/world collection for the series.
Hopefully he has better luck hanging around to finish the series.

Considering she's never been officially introduced in the book series as Sarella, I kinda doubt we'll see her cast.

Any theories as to why George isn't writing an episode for S5?
I'm thinking he's trying to wrap up TWoW and have it out in late 2015.

In this interview after the panel he explicitly says that writing an episode takes a month and that he needs to finish the next book because the fans are getting antsy. So he's taking off specifically to write TWoW. Thank the Old Gods and the New.

Yea he's also not even going to visit the set any during the filming of season 5.
I don't buy any of the talk of him not caring or that's he's made his money and is just taking a victory lap. I think he cares very deeply about the series. I mean how can he not? It's his life's greatest work.
And as far as the show passing the books, I'm with GRRM all the way. I've said it numerous times on here and other websites. The show will only pass the books if D&D want it to pass the books. Barring GRRM's unexpected death. There's enough material left from AFFC and aDwD to make 3 more seasons. Looks like season 5 will cover Dorne etc. So there is still the Kingsmoot/Greyjoy stuff of which there is a ton. Arya adventures in Braavos. Sam and Gilly. Dany's story in Mereen (there's a ton there even if you didn't like it). Jon, Stannis and the Wall. Brianne, Pod and LSH. Cercei's spiral into madness. Jamie into the Riverlands. Or wherever they take him. JonCon and young Griff. Tyrion's move to the dark side. Quentyn. Etc etc etc.
If they just start cutting stuff just to cut it then that is worst case scenario for everybody. Book readers get the main story spoiled and show watchers just get a very watered version of the true story

And I don't buy that he's not finally kicking it in gear because a lot of fans have made it clear that it's time for him to concentrate on finishing it and that there is a decent chance that the show could pass him up.
But to each his own. I've been called a few choice words on this board for that, so I'll leave it at that.

Before his latest trip he actually spent the last 8-9 months doing nothing but working on tWoW. I think he has a lot of the writing done already. How any chapters have been released? 6 or 7? Plus we now know he has written the Prologue already as well. And this was all before his last long writing period I mentioned at the beginning of this post
Edit: there have been 12 sample chapters revealed

Here's another article about Jeyne, not taking any more trips etc LINK
Martin spoke with Zap2It’s Terri Schwartz about his comments during yesterday’s panel that Robb Stark’s book wife, Jeyne Westerling, would be making an appearance in ‘The Winds of Winter’ prologue. He reveals that she won’t be the POV character, and that he may just break his own rules in terms of the fate of those who appear in his prologues. He also talks about fans finding hints for future plot points throughout the books, and expands on why he won’t be writing an episode for Season 5.
