Oh no. I hope that can happen. I was referring to any kind of a return to the team this year.

Well he won't so you can stop posting about it.

My guess is he was on some kind of a super secret probation (that he and the coaching staff knew about), which would explain why he was off-limits to the media for the last few months.
I have wondered all along if there isn't some other issue like an athletic eligibility issue going on.

Don't know how he could look any sillier than he did on the night of 1/9/12.........

That's really not true though. It's just not.
Okay, today I've been out of the loop all day so I'm suprised to see all thid "return after a year" stuff...and I am full of vodka and appetizers so I'm not gonna try to gpo through pages of bullshite to see if this has been covered, but:
After the third failed test the LSU policy allows for an appeal by the head coach (Miles extending himself personally and professionally?) If the appeal is granted testing continues, and another failed test results in permanent loss of eligibility. This scenario seems a good fit with all we've heard..........

3rd positive = 1 year suspension. After 1 year, the player MAY be reinstated if approved by the AD, the Coach, and the "treatment team".

from the LSU policy:
quote:
11. A successful appeal will result in routine drug tests for the student-athlete. If institutional drug testing reveals the existence of drugs at any time an automatic positive test will be issued and Permanent Ineligibility to participate at LSU will result.

I'm pretty sure that reads as, a positive test during the appeal process is permanent

8. Any Third Violation Case may be appealed at the written request of the Head Coach detailing the reason(s) for the request.
9. The Administrative Voting Committee will be made up of the Athletic Director, Associate Athletic Director, the ADAP Administrator, Drug Prevention Coordinator, and Head Athletic Trainer. In cases where a student-athlete has exhausted his/her eligibility to compete in a sport, a partial committee may be assembled at the discretion of the Athletic Director.
10. If after review the committee allows the restoration of a Third Violation case, the restoration will be based on full compliance of all Athletic Department rules and regulations for the remainder of student-athlete’s time at LSU. The committee, at its discretion, may impose conditions upon reinstatement that are binding for the student-athlete’s reinstatement to full eligibility. (i.e. loss of scholarship, game suspension, etc…)
11. A successful appeal will result in routine drug tests for the student-athlete. If institutional drug testing reveals the existence of drugs at any time an automatic positive test will be issued and Permanent Ineligibility to participate at LSU will result.
To me #11 reads after a successful appeal

I agree - this seems to fit perfectly with everything that we've heard... it explains why there was never a 1-yr suspension - just a permanent dismissal.

I don't think this can be his 4th positive test, because he was never suspended for a year for a 3rd positive test. If it IS his 4th failed test, LSU would be in serious trouble for not suspending him for a year after the 3rd failed test.
I just think Miles spoke about a "permanent" suspension because he felt Mathieu would move on to an FCS program if he couldn't play for a year. But Mathieu wanting to sit out a year and then come back was something Miles never considered.
If it's a 4th failed test, LSU is in trouble for violating its own policy. I don't think that's the case.

LSU policy allows for an appeal of the 3rd failed test. If it is granted another failed test results in permanent ineligibility at LSU. We can't know exactly what happened because LSU can't make it public, but this scenario does seem to fit.

They would only be in trouble with themselves, not the NCAA.
