We had Darren Sharper playing at an all pro level and Will Smith actually doing his job. The defense was still ranked at the bottom of the league.

Im just tired of everybody but our players and management getting blamed. We're in a pattern of changing DCs every three years.

We were too conservative, then we were too aggresive. Now we're going back to the 2006 model.

Spags can obviously coach, but the Giants Dline isnt lining up for him here. Heck a St. Louis Rams caliber Dline isnt lining up here.

The thing I think that's different from Gibbs and GW is that Spags isn't ultra conservative like Gibbs, but not hyper aggressive like GW. I also think we have better over all talent level, especially at the linebacker position.

So what I'm expecting this year is a d-line that is tasked with getting after the QB (and not just occupying blockers for blitzers) and a back 7 that's facing the ball ready to make a play.

Spags scheme is still aggressive, but it's creates real confusion. GW seemed to think that you could create confusion by formation, while Spags wants to create confusion ambiguous player assignments.

I've said this before: I don't think GW was a bad coordinator. I simply think that he descended into madness. He saw the effectiveness of the offense and it gave him this unfounded hubris.

Your anticipation of 2012 defense as far as scheme is incorrect. Yes, the defense will be playing more zone concepts, just as they did under Gibbs but the concepts by the front 7 will be TOTALLY different.

Spags will still be aggressive but calculated as well. Williams on the other hand was wreckless. The zone blitzing schemes Spags is implementing alone will help in causing confusion for opposing offensive lineman & QB's as well. That confusion will lead to more mistakes & more turnovers for the defense.

Throw in the fact that more talent was brought in on defense this offseason in Bunkley, Hawthorne, Chamberlain & Lofton then you would realize that defense has no choice but to be better then previous years.

I'm with you to a certain point. I think most of our D-line is slow getting off the ball. Besides Juneyah, I haven't seen a guy with a good burst off the line the last few years. I like that Tez is moving to DE but that adjustment will take some time for him to get used to, I'm not expecting him to be a gang buster come Week 1 vs. Washington.

I love the move though. We need more speed off the edge.

I think most people got spoiled off of Sharper's season in '09 and just thought that Jenkins would just pick up right were he left off.

But I felt bad for Jenkins this past year. He was left out to dry to many times in that retarded scheme by GW. Greg Williams never really seemed to try anything new. He just got too cocky last year even though it was the offense who carried the team. Just my opinion. I believe this defense will improve and that is enough for me. We have the best offense in the game. The special teams were pretty solid for the most part last year also.
