I think they are better now then they have been since 2008. Part of that is Jeff finding his spot in the band replacing LeRoi Moore, and Tim has toned down his playing a little. I think their prime was 1998-2001, and when they dumped Steve Lillywhite, went with a different producer for Everyday and remade the Lillywhite sessions into Busted Stuff, everything changed.

As for Tim, he is fantastic in the acoustic settings, like the Luther College and Radio City releases, but he can be a bit much in full band settings. Personally, I liked it more when they had Butch Taylor playing piano.

If they got rid of Tim and brought back Butch Taylor, this discussion doesn't exist. TR technically amazing, but limited musicality within the band
