I dont think there is any coincidence that his noticeable better play has happened with the return of Lucas... Lucas may not be as sharp with his passing, but he is able to cover the back 4 just fine...

That was a good game. Sunderland did create a couple of good chances but that was it. The one thing that concerns me is that it seems whenever teams create chances against us they look pretty clear cut. It is as if the formation is built in such a way that sometimes the defence completely switches off. Maybe the players just need to play longer in this system to get used to it.
Even better news the Beeb confirms Cole to West Ham. This has to be a permanent transfer because they already have Carroll on loan.

Been out of pocket for a while, what a fantastic start to 2013.
Not sure what I am most happy about, but it is Cole=>out.

another great result. Glad to see Raheem get his second and be able to put that shot away.
And just more amazing stuff from Suarez. I'm in awe watching the guy. And it seems like him and Gerrard are on the same page; obviously on the link up for the goal, but also just the simple passing and the quick little one-two's.
And the importance of Lucas to the squad cannot be stated enough.
And maybe it's just the abita talking, but is Mcclean a grown up bad luck Brian?

And the Cole transfer is on a free right? Am I hearing correctly?

Pretty sure he is getting a golden handshake to leave.

That's what I'm hearing.... 1/2 of his remaining salary due over the next year and a half to supplement his wages.
With his salary freed up and word that we're looking to offload Sahin's too... That's a nice chunk of salary off of the books with the # 9 & #10 shirts available... Another big signing? Or saving It for the summer? We'll see...

So, since we are a little over the half way point... Who is your player of the year for LFC so far?
I have to go with Luis Suarez followed closely by Glen Johnson..

Suarez. He's been incredible.
Breakout player of the year is easily Sterling.

From the Times on BR's use of Suarez and Sturridge:
quote:
“Daniel’s best position is as a central striker,” Rodgers said. “I have said 4-3-3 will become richer because of the type of players. There is not one way to play 4-3-3. You can play one up, a floating No 9 like Luis Suárez and two wingers. You can play one like Daniel Sturridge central, two in and around him narrow, with full backs bombing on.
“The principles of your game are based on your players. I think for Daniel, his best position will be straight through the middle with his pace. I spoke with Luis at length about this a number of times.
“This has been in the plan for a few months. When he played at Ajax he played in behind as a No 10 in between the lines, and he played as a reverse winger from the left side so he wasn’t quite out wide, he was tucked in round the corner.
“Wherever he plays, he will make the same movements and he will find the space because he is a world-class player. It is not a problem having top players. Don’t talk about problems with players, we need good players.”
“There is always a risk and doubts about any player,” Rodgers said. “I have spoken to enough people who have worked with Daniel, and you always have to do your homework. You are never going to be 100 per cent sure they will succeed, but over time you have that bit of thinking time to look around and see how they are going to fit in, and then when you meet the player and take it from his own side.
“You need to look in the player’s eyes and see if they have that hunger, and he is coming off the back of being at a big club but one where he hasn’t played and he is coming here with everything to prove.”

Very nice. Right in line with a lot of our thinking in this thread.
