I think it's a confidence issue frankly. He doesn't want to be responsible for giving the ball away so he recycles possession or tries to dribble around until a wide open teammate appears.

That simply isn't true. He may have done it a few times, (if Opta/FourFourTwo would ever release the stat zone app on Android, I could tell you how much it happened) but it certainly wasn't every single attack. And it's not his job anyways, as part of the double pivot, to be our creative force. I will agree that he, Santi, and Jack all had moments where they could've played Theo in it looked like, but they never even tried (except for that one Santi ball to Theo he couldn't control with his backheel).
