I have a chainsaw with no more adjustment to tighten up the chain...before I start dropping money on new components, I want to see if I can take a link out of the chain? If it is possible, can you do it yourself or would a saw shop have to do it?

You can but it will probably never work worth a flying shite again.

You either have the wrong chain or the bar is worn to shite or something. Both are very cheap fixes.

ETA: And no way I would trust a modified chain. You can easily cut your balls off if it breaks.

Unscrew the link, pull the bar back and start tightening again.

Yes, find the master link and use a punch to take the pin out.

I wouldn't mess with it, I would just buy a new chain. Something turing 9000-12000 rpms can cause some damage if you don't know what you are doing.

I had one break and cut the ever-loving shite out of my leg below and above my knee. To close to the balls. Spend $15 bucks for the sake of your nuts.

trouble is, I don't really think the chain is the problem...so a new one is not gonna fix it...I am guessing the next size shorter would be too small for the bar that I have...

I guess you all have convinced me to drop some cash on a new bar...

thanks to all who have replied....

Take it to a saw shop. They can take a link out in minutes.

Yep I would bring the whole saw. You can look at the bar and see if it's worn more on one side than the other. Good to let them take a look. They can also make a chain to fit the bar and saw you have. If the chain is that worn that a link needs to be removed then it may need replacing. Unless that is a different bar than came with the saw.
