How many gunfights do folks that carry get in? I hear this a lot and have never heard of someone in a shootout. I have heard of many grannies defending themselves with dusty 30 year old long guns. Amazing they got the drop on em with the rust and external safety.

Oh, I don't know. 'The American Rifleman" magazine always has 6-8 described every month.
And I suppose you could derive copious figures from the studies published by by John Stossel and/or Gary Kleck.
Kleck's research resulted in an estimate of Two Million (2,000,000) defensive handgun uses (DGU) per year in the US.
The US Department of Justice, in a subsequent study, estimated this number to be 1.5 Million (1,500,000) per year.
