Im in Hammond, and the Academy here has had more in than any other in the area, but they dont ever seem to know the day they are arriving. But they are usually sold out within an hour of the store opening.

What about at a gun show? I am looking for the m&p shield 9mm. I have been researching online and finally got to play with one a Puglia's and really liked the way it felt. I will be purchasing one as my first pistol.

I shot a buddies XD 40 about a month ago and I really liked the gun. The XDm is newer, has a few changes but I didn't like the knobby grip on it although the grip overall was very comfortable.

XDM is just the newer version of the XD series. They just tweaked some of the freatures such as the grip and slide and added an ambidextrous mag release. I think the XDM's have a slightly higher mag capacity too.
If you like the XD's and want something you can conceal they also just came out with a single stack compact called the XDs. Right now it's only in .45, but i think they are planning on making a 9mm and .40 sometime in the future.

They changed the barrel sizes from the XD to the XDM's. You used to have 3.5", 4", and 4.5" for the XD and now the XDM's are in 3.8" and 4.5". The XDM'S have updated grip ergo's and it causes a slightly different feel.
