Just came out the closet and bought my 1st yak. Been reading up and learning but was wondering what you guys do with your catch until you make it in? My first thought was to use a stringer but I'm not sure if there is a better method.

I've yet to keep a fish I've caught out of my yak

Buy one of those $10 California Innovations tote coolers from Walmart or Sams'. You might have to replace it once or twice a year but it's only $10 and weighs next to nothing. Then put a tournament weigh bag in it to make it more puncture proof. For $25 you will have a great kayak fish bag.
CI Cooler Tote
Weigh Bag
You can find these weigh bags at Academy, Cabelas, BassPro, etc.
Depending on the layout of your kayak and your personal comfort zone, you can either keep it in your tankwell or on the front deck. I keep my just past my feet and just pull it to me when needed. I have it attached to a retractable dog leash just in case it slips off the deck (hasn't happened in 3 years so far) I won't lose my catch.
