I mean, you should take the first pitch if you're the leadoff or if it's a new pitcher coming in most of the time, but we do need to swing at the first pitch every now and then to keep them honest.

Teams watch film. Lsu takes first pitch 95% of the time. Free strike right down the middle.

Well, with a proper approach, the right hitters would be allowed to jump on that first pitch every once in a while. But without a proper hitting coach, we could never get a proper approach at the plate.

gotta keep them honest. The only way to strike that fear is to have some added power in the lineup. (extra basehit power, not necessarily HR power)

This lineup didn't have that for two reasons.

1. For some reason LSU has forgotten that the state of TX exists. (Furniss, Hawpe, Larson, Stavinoha, Patterson, etc.) So, we are recruiting marginal guys locally like Moore. Our recruiting on the offensive side of things is terrible. (tl:dr--recruit hitters from TX because our S. LA boys tend to be short and small)
2. Hitting instruction.
