Excellent article on Germany

This article reaffirms THIS article by Uli Hesse- Lichtenberger. What I found most interesting is the amount of money spent by the DFB after their debacle in 2000. It was such a prudent investment that Germany looks to be the major football power in Europe for at least the next decade. Interestingly enough, the DFB was also copying Clairefontaine, which is the youth academy I wish the U.S. would copy.

Really good read. Thanks for sharing.
You taken a look at Zonal Marking's Euro previews yet? I only had time to check out Netherlands but it was good.

Yeah they are pretty solid. This will be an extremely close Euros I think.

I agree. This tournament is going to be badass on a ton of levels. The worst part, honestly, is going to be the host countries/venues.

For sure. A lot of really talented teams, but even the favorites have some pretty big question marks. Should be fun.

I just wish some teams would employ some unique tactics this tournament. I'm sick of the bastardized 4-2-3-1 that almost every European national team will employ this tournament.
If only Bielsa was managing a team this tournament...

Löw wanted to go with a 4-1-4-1 but couldn't get it working in time. He said it was the "next step" in German football.

Jogi is wild but I'm assuming this is to make full use of the talents in midfield? Would basti be the CDM? I know he would do well there I just don't always like him playing so far back

He said that the 4-2-3-1 is way too defensive for his tastes. I would imagine he would prefer a full time defensive mid at that spot and let Basti play ahead, since he's always the smartest player on the field.
I would love to see it succeed but there are so many question marks. If you want to get Kroos on the field, Basti would have to play the defensive mid and you can pair Ozil and Kroos up, which would be pretty sick.
Your two outside mids in that formation would probably drift inside a whole lot, I'm guessing it would be a combination of Poldi, Muller, Reus, Gotze. Which would mean you'd need solid contributions from your fullbacks... you know you're getting it from Lahm, but what about the other side.. Schmelzer? Maybe.
Then you'd have Klose and Gomez to play striker.
It would be a very attacking lineup, that's for sure.

I think you'll see Italy in a 3-5-2 some with De Rossi slotting back between the regular CBs.

The 3-4-2-1 is freakin awesome too. I hope Die Mannschaft break it out this tournament. It sounds like it would leave your defense open a bit, but it provides a lot more defense than you'd think.

I didn't realize that Fabian Johnson won a U-21 European title.

We need to hurry up and cap tie him. Germany could use him.

He filed his one-time switch already. Locked into the USMNT!

Are you sure about this? Does this mean Corona is cap tied with us since he played with Mexico first and then the US? Same with Disk? I'm not so sure...

I'm beginning to wonder if anyone really knows.
Just to be safe, I hope Klinsmann hobbles Johnson out there for the last 2 minutes Friday.
I agree that it's making me nervous how good he's looked coupled with Schmeltzer being, in my opinion, the weakest link on the German NT.

Nearly 100% certain. iirc Wahl had it confirmed during the Scotland match.
