4" schedule 40 PVC will do just fine and is plenty strong enough. With 12 foot long I would think 6-8 pieces should be plenty. Jack up the leading edge and insert a few pieces.
I would use a basic pully around a tree or a post driven in the ground (telephone pole buried 4 ft or so or a heavy steel pipe)to pull it forward. Drill through the two skids for attachment points for your rope. Once it is on the pipe it won't take much to move it. Go slowly!
