Penn and Teller say it's BS and that's good enough for me.
Not Primerica specifically, but MLM in general.

I think using the word scam could be inaccurate because a "quality" product is being offered and it is easily justified to say that anyone could work their way up and make good money, but you really can't justify the reality of it.
With the business model used, it is almost as if the product is secondary and the the biggest asset is people who will sell more non commissioned sales than commissioned sales. Do you not see why people think it is "shady"?

Not that I expect anything different from you by liking Primerica. You generally like things that suck. i.e. Lee
what are you 13 years old?
You sure seem to know alot about primerica, obv more than I do.
Things Ive said in this thread is going on a product side, not how they train/"use" people.
I couldnt care less about that.
You on the other hand sound butthurt and mad.
Maybe a bit jealous, perhaps someone you dont like is doing well at it.. perhaps you tried it and it didnt work out.
If I were you I'd chalk it up as a learning experience and just move on.

I agree.
As Ive said couple times already, I mainly was pointing out that as far as the product side of the company, from what I know is comaparable to rest of the insurance industry.

Sounds like the same happened to you. I didn't make it past the first meeting before I walked out of the door. How long did it take you to realize?

that's not what anyone else was discussing, nor does it relate to the OP's question....

Anyone else got kinda sad after reading this?

I tried Primerica for a few months and even got my Insurance license. It will work good for people that know a lot of people that know alot of people. So CT3 and other BR area ex-sports players can excel with it. Me on the hand, ran out of people to pitch too and I couldn't stay with it. I joined Melaleuca (under my Mom)but I just bought the products & didn't try to recruit. I recently cancelled my membership as it was getting expensive each month and not worth it, esp when you have Walmart rolling back the prices every day.
ETA: Melaleuca has a sign up cost and they charge you some small fee ( under $30) every year

Is Amway considered a MLM business?
I had an aunt an uncle in Amway when I was younger (I might have been in my early teens). They were in it for a few years, but during that time they pretty much distanced themselves from their family and anyone not associated with Amway.
Their sons (my cousins) and I are pretty much like brothers so I would go to their house on a regular basis and everything they used was Amway products. I use to hate that because they would have the Amway version of everything fro chips to shampoo and they would always say "we don't have ______ but we use the Amway version which is actually better quality than __________".
I think part of the reason they started becoming distant to everyone around them not in Amway is because everyone got tired of hearing about how Amway makes a better quality product of just about everything someone uses. It was kind of like "why do you use that cleaning product? You want to buy something that works much better and cost the same?".
I understand an aggressive approach works on some people, but there is nothing worse than someone telling me what I should want/need.

Cult + Pyramid Scheme = Primerica
I almost needed an intervention in the late nineties to escape this group in Baton Rouge.

Tell us your experience.
It does seem very cult like, but I am not sure if it falls under the definition of a cult.
Posted on 5/24/12 at 12:35 pm to OweO
I was half-heartedly joking with the 'cult' comment. All you have to do is attend the city-wide large 'training' sessions and you'll understand what I'm talking about.
The behavior of some of the members is somewhat cultish, in my opinion. When someone didn't consistantly attend the weeknight meetings and the Saturday morning training sessions, they were accused of not being dedicated to their "Financial Independence." When a person or family decided to leave the group, then they were disparaged and made fun of at following meetings gatherings.
The people at the entry level will only move up to higher commissions and residual incomes if they tap into their friends and family. Whenever a member gets the license for mutual funds sales anyone above them in the chain receives significant commissions without doing any work.
I just felt creepy with the constant pressure to talk my family into purchasing the insurance and investing in the offered mutual funds.

This seems to be spot in terms why the guy I knew who was in it for a few months, never shut up about it. Like I mentioned earlier, its like they are taking a "you either with us or against us" mentality and that super aggressive BS is basically preying on the mentally weak.

The worst part about Primerica is that they are way overpriced on there products. Here you are pitching a product to your friends and family members who trust you have their best interests at heart, and you are selling them an overpriced product. Now Im not saying the actual policy you sell them is a bad product/scam, but it is overpriced.
