police cars turned over and fires in Chicago, Detroit, Vancouver, West Va., race riots in L.A.,
Denver, Memphis, opposing fans beaten into a coma by S.F. Giants fans, LSU fans pulled out of their car and beaten by West Va. fans, Bama fans shooting each other over a football game, mass murders in Atlanta and Milwaukee, gang violence in NY, LA, Houston, San Antonio, Chicago, and
huge riots in Seattle when trying to do a "Mardi Gras" celebration............

but New Orleans is "per capita" the murder capital of the country - with a 350,000 population - 1/20 of the city of New York.

What this misleading stat DOESN'T say, is that 99.9999999 percent of the murders are done by 15-45 year old gang members/drug dealers/drug users """""""""ON""""""""" 15-45 year old gang members/drug dealers/drug users.......IN the inner city, N.O. East, and some central city/mid-city crack houses and project areas.

The entire metro N.O. area of 1.2 million is safer than most metro areas in the coutnry.
Unless you are coming to N.O. to join a gang, buy/sell drugs, etc. the odds are astronomical that you will be murdered or even victimized.

The only time a tourist would ever get in trouble "IN A TOURIST AREA" would be if he/she strays away from Quarter at 3 in the morning and gets lost in outlying streets/alleys - which happens EVERYWHERE IN EVERY BIG CITY IN THIS COUNTRY.

When was the last time an out-of-town tourist in the city for a sporting event was murdered?
I could probably count on one hand the number since 1970.
When it does happen, it is huge news, but it hardly ever does. Just like Mardi Gras, Festivals, the Saints Super Bowl parade (which had nearly 800,000 people crammed into downtown -0 incidents.)
I believe there have been a couple of shootings during Mardi Gras near parade routes over the last couple of years- but again - they are isolated thug drug violence..

New Orleans has or will host NBA All-star games, Final Fours, Olympic Trials, Super Bowls, Sugar Bowls, New Orleans Bowls, Essence, FQ Fest, Jazz Fest, Saints games, Tulane games, Mardi Gras, some of the biggest CONVENTIONS in the world, BCS Championship Games, Women's Final Fours, NCAA Regional playoff games, etc.

Where are all the murders and violence during all of these? Colin ?????????????

Yep, been living in Houston for 4 years and there is by far more robbery/murders and random other murders not related to drug dealers and gangs than I ever remember in New Orleans

You know, I've lived out of state for quite a while now. We get back to New Orleans periodically but usually our trips back home are to the in-laws area in Central Louisiana.
I can tell you with every fiber in me that the single most element I miss from back home are the people there. The culture, cuisine, outdoors are greatly missed but if I had to single out ONE thing it's the people.
Remove Hurricane displaced people and for the most part people stay in Louisiana (or The South in general). Everyone here in Arizona is from Chicago, Detroit, or other Midwest and East Coast areas. Those places such and I'd leave them, too.
I've always had to hear the jokes and pokes at Southerners and frankly it pisses me off. So, Cowturd adn the rest of his ilk can kiss my "redneck" arse.
I can't wait for the day to retire and get back home permanently in Central Louisiana.

Why are you guys so bothered by this story? I live here and it doesn't offend me. If it seriously bothers you, do something about it. Make the city an even better place and then it shuts people like him up.

Do you think NYC residents take offense when people talk about NYC's crime? Nope. Unless you're the mayor, some government official for NOLA or in the Police - why so serious?

DD if you heard Mayor Landrieu's speech and state of the city address yesterday (which you may have since you live in the city) you would know that we are - it's just that idiots like Cowherd DON'T KNOW OR ACKNOWLEDGE IT.

What is so wrong is that Cowherd outright SLANDERS on national radio 1.2 million people who live in the metro area, and instantly hurts our tourist and business industries - two of the best in the country right now by labeling us in such a misleading fashion.

Actually, I must admit, I haven't heard it but I know from the news last night he's trying to implement some plan of bringing in more police from other areas (or something to that extent, I could be off).

Regardless. I've lived in a bunch of cities and each have their crime. New Orleans crime does suck per capita but odds are if you don't:
1) Start crap
2) Go to the wrong part of town after dark
3) Aren't a piece of shite selling crack to kids
that you won't end up as another murder.

To the OP's point though - you can say those above 3 rules to ANY city in ANY country.

I just don't understand why everyone is so mad. Listening to the radio today was nuts. People sound like they actually want to cause physical violence to a "Shock Jock". Y'all are only boosting his #s.

From an article by a non-local:

Because shite like that has a negative impact on the image, and thus economy, of NOLA.

As a son of New Orleans, I'm offended. Don't you talk 'bout my momma!

Dat's me!
At the "Shotski" tailgate across from old Alex Box..
I remember the Oregon dude ('Baciami' or something like that) was drunk off his arse and wanted me to take a picture of him between every 2 LSU chicks that passed by :)
A Notre Dame dude lost his briefcase or something, and they had the usual complement of Shama fans, some nice, some trolls.
The food was excellent !

Too bad we gave the game away

You going to all the games this year?

You still in Metry and work at that big building on West Esplanade? :)
