The one on Seigen by Airline had both LSU Purple and LSU Gold varieties last year.

I've heard mixed results from them. Do you like them. I want to plant a fig next year, but not sure if I'll plant the LSU one.

have a fig tree in my backyard that must be 20+ feet tall. planted probably 20 years ago. Neighbors on both sides have them also. think their trees came from mine.

Both the Gold and the Purple are excellent figs. There's another one called a Tiger that was also developed in Louisiana that is really good as well. It's a yellow colored fig that is very sweet. You should look into that one as well. I would go for one of those three before buying a Celeste or a Brown Turkey.

I don't know, I've heard a lot of people on this board say that the LSU varieties aren't that great.

I can't disagree more. I have several cuttings of different Louisiana figs, with mature O'Rourke, Gold, Purple and Tiger trees that are all producing. I think all of them are very good.
Here are some other Louisiana figs.

I think my grandmother forced me to eat too much mock strawberry jelly as a child, so I now hate figs. I hate three fig trees in my yard that produce well, and creat giant messes. However, they are incredible wildlife attractors, for birds, squirrels and insects. So I just sit back there and watch.

Funny you say that. I felt the same way for quite some time, but I think my tastes have changed in the past 6 years and now I really like them. I agree about it being a wildlife attractor as well. I see butterflies, honeybees and birds and squirrels in my trees all the time. I also agree that if I don't harvest ripe fruit before the rain comes, it turns into a giant mess.
