where does social media come into play?
I'll admit I haven't read the entire story, but I thought I saw where twitter accounts were part of this and FB as well, and the business was driven by hits on web pages. Call it what you want, but the overall internet/social networking aspect has affected the media in a huge way.

when did Page2 on ESPN.com become "mainstream media" ?
So the websites of mainstream media entities (espn, cbs, abc, cnn, etc) are not considered part of their media offering?

yes it has decentralized the media in many respects and led to more news getting out faster
look at how fast stories break on the OT. we were discussing the trayvon martin stuff the night it happened, which was a week before the national news picked it up
