second job options

I'm wanting to pick up a 2nd job to help build savings quicker and pay off the house/gain more equity in the house quicker.
I finally have a job now where my hours allow me a lot of time outside of work. I work M-TH 8-4:30 and F 8-4.
Any recommendations? I know deliver pizza is a popular one, but my cars both have over 100k miles on them and I like not having a car payment, so I would rather not put the extra wear and tear on it.
I've tried grocery stores and retail, but no call backs. (maybe they don't want part time, or maybe they are wondering what the hell I'm doing applying there)
any ideas?

What about picking up a couple of yards in the 'hood to mow?

wouldn't mind doing that, but I'd have to buy much better equipment than I have now. Plus, i live in TX. There's already at least 3-4 business cards thrown in people's driveways of landscapers in my neighborhood already.

If you are good at any particular subjects in school you can try and do tutoring? Or bar-backing on the weekends.

Bartending would work, but there goes your weekend.

Have you tried cutting something in your budget to save a few extra bucks to go towards things mentioned?

Maybe work concessions at sporting events in the area, like a Minor League ball park?

I'm solid at math and music, but no real credentials to be able to get a job doing that.
I am new to the city I live in and don't really know anybody for connections either to get mowing jobs or tutoring jobs etc.
Bartending wouldn't be too bad, but i'd rather not give up my weekends with my wife and son. I don't need the extra $ that badly.
Would be awesome to just get something I can do from like 5-11 on weeknights for say 3-4 nights a week.

To piggyback on that, ump pee wee games. Pays $25/game here, two games a night. I believe pays cash as well. Concession stands here are done on a volunteer basis. As in, your team HAS to have volunteers on the night you are scheduled to work it.

Yeah. I have always kept a good/strict budget. Just want to be aggressive and pay off the house and increase savings to a year's worth.
I'd say doing a 2nd job for about a year could accomplish my goals. Plus, I'd rather do this in my 20s and be set up rather than be 40 something struggling.

No minor league teams near me. Just the Astros, which is a 1 hour drive. Don't know if that would be worth it.

Don't you have to pay money and go through a certification program to ump little league games?

You answered another one of my questions earlier, regarding spending time with your family. Maybe an early morning gig like delivering newspapers. Then you do not miss any time with the fam. Downside being wear-and-tear on your high-mileage vehicle.

Tutoring/beginners music lessons would be perfect to be honest. And don't worry about connections to get in. Try craigslist, put ads in the papers, bulletin boards at local community colleges, etc.

yeah. Not sure how much the Houston Chronicle gets delivered. I guess I could look into that, but if I'm gonna put miles on my car, might as well do pizza delivery right?

Not here, you just have to take a class one night. Plus Pee Wee games are not that, how do I say it, active.

Well, I don't play guitar or piano. I played tuba/baritone in band, but I don't have an instrument anymore.
I guess I could put craigslist ads for math tutor maybe.

You would probably be surprised at how much it gets delivered. Like you said though, might as well sling pies.

It's like I feel I could be doing more and I'm being lazy.
But, I feel like every option I come across there's a reason i can't do it.
My Brother in law mows yards for extra dough and is making good money at it. However, he started out in a small town in TX with the nearest city with more than 25,000 being San Antonio about an hour away. He started out mowing 3 good friends he grew up with and just spread word of mouth from there.
I live in freaking Houston. Tutoring ads on Craigslist are endless by tutoring companies.
