Had this been revealed before and I missed it?

The NFL's investigation into the Saints found Payton initially lied about the existence of a bounty program and instructed his defensive assistants to do the same.

I wish they would just hurry up with player penalties so this story will start to fade away.
Unfortunately I have a feeling this will go on another 2 years. Obviously all season this year and then when Peyton returns next year it will be revived again.

Dude is going to be hella lonely.
quote:
Under the terms of his season-long suspension for his role in New Orleans' bounty program, coach Sean Payton is not allowed to have any contact with the Saints organization or anyone around the NFL, and if he does, must report it to league executive Ray Anderson, a source familiar with the suspension tells ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Thus, when Payton's suspension began Monday, he essentially was cut off from every Saints employee and any coaching friend he has around the league until the day after the 2013 Super Bowl, when the suspension is scheduled to end.
Payton and Saints general manager Mickey Loomis have beach houses about one mile apart from each other in Florida. They cannot, by the NFL's law, say hello to each other on the beach without Anderson being informed of it.

Thanks.
This was the first time I saw something that indicated Payton directed others to lie about the situation.

This is such total BS.

He'll be fine. He's a millionaire. Plenty of fun to be had.

Maybe he was referring to the Kennedy assassination. Maybe SP was the one on the grassy knoll and part of a huge CIA-NFL conspiracy.
(The fact that he was one month old is irrelevant.)

Not to me in this context...

Payton telling his coaches to "get our ducks in a row" does not necessarily mean he was telling them to lie. He could just be preparing them for the interview process with the NFL. A team of businesspeople making a presentation can say get our ducks in a row and it just means let's all be prepared. That's my main problem with the bountygate report. It makes assumptions based on SEEMINGLY evasive actions by Payton, but no actual hard evidence. It blasts the saints for making "cursory" inquiries about the bounty system but they only made cursory inquiries in response to the NFL's own "cursory" inquiry.

Not a huge fan of the "Herd" but got this podcast. Pay attention to how far Goodell went in Paytons suspension. No college interaction either.

Does goodell even have the right to in any way limit Paytons contact with someone not affiliated with the NFL? I'm no lawyer but I don't think he does.
