I think that Alleva is attempting to go after the best candidate with LA ties that he can. Let's not forget this isn't a big state, so the numbers aren't likely to be large relative to other states.

Pat Murphy was a big name coach. Does that not meet your expectations regardless of the connections? Facilities, program, athletes, cash. That's the sell and if connections exist you leverage that.

Don't get me wrong, I want high expectations. But, I am a big believer that many coaches fail because of the situation, not their ability.

I would compare it to the NFL. Jason David was a great corner in the Colts system. He was terrible for the Saints. Pitino has been a great college coach, not so successful in the NBA. So, yes I want high expectations, but there is an intangible that must fit the job.
