Question about the 1977 LSU-Bama game

Watching the game; it's at Tiger Stadium. One of the end zones has UA painted in red and white. Did LSU used to do this for all their opponents back then?

I believe they use to do this at Legion Field as well back in the day.

A couple of things already mentioned:
Legion Field in Birmingham switched to artificial turf in 1970, and from this point on, they did not decorate the end zones or any part of the field.
The Alabama at LSU game in 1977 was the first day game in Tiger Stadium since the Tigers hosted Auburn for Homecoming, in 1969.
For most games, but not all, the South end zone was decorated with the letters of the opponent (for example, "UA" in large letters for Alabama). For most games in the early to mid-1970's this was done, but I don't think all home games. Sometimes, they would just put LSU in both end zones and simply reverse the color pattern (for example, gold letters on purple background in one end zone, and purple letters on gold background in the other).
For TV games, they usually decorated the field by making every 5 yard block darker than the next 5 yard block. Sometimes, a sort of SEC emblem or square color pattern was used at midfield.

You would have been OK, but since you let out your little secret, everyone will be on the lookout for a UCLA fan.
I cannot, in good conscience, vouch for your safety.
Unless you look like this....
Then you will be OK!

There was a sguare block at midfield cut in quarters. The quarters closest to the south end were opponents colors with the opponents lettering in the south endzone. The quarters closest to the north endzone were purple and gold with the block LSU in the north endzone.

LSU-Auburn - Oct. 25 1969 was my first ever LSU game. My Dad and cousin and I sat in the SEZ about midway up in the bottom level, just a shade to the right of the middle of the goalposts. The SEZ was painted orange with big blue "A U" letters.
Andy Hamilton caught a halfback pass from Jimmy Gilbert for a TD on the first play from scrimmage.

Yes. The south end zone was always painted in the other team's colors with their initials. They only stopped doing that in the early '80s, I think.

They beat snot out of us this fiasco; The recievers and DB's jerseys without stripes. Don't remember this and I was there (jr.) at the time, must have been hazy days! LOL

The LSU vs Bama was a day game in 1973.

No,it wasn't. It was moved to Thanksgiving Night and Alabama won 21-7.
For the OP and along the lines with others, not sure if it was just for televised games or not, but Tiger Stadium would have one end zone in Purple with gold L S U and the other end zone would have the colors of the opponent. The 1969 Auburn and 1970 Ole Miss games were televised and any footage or picture from that game can see an orange AU and a red UM (or maybe 'O'M). Pretty sure the same was for Notre Dame and Alabama in 1971 as they were on ABC.

'73 was Thanksgiving night... my first ever game in Tiger Stadium. The end zone crowd threw oranges at the Bear.

The game might have ended in the evening but I got a sunburn on the east side in 73.

I was a student from 71-75 and I went to a day game ,maybe 72 or 73, against Auburn and I think we won 35-7 and may have scored on the first play of the game.I was drinking a lot so I may be confused on the score but I know I wasn't too drunk to tell the difference between night and day.
Anyone else remember this game? I think both teams were undefeated going in to the game. Some of you older folk out there help me on this.

the 73 game was my first game ever, too. They were throwing oranges at Bear Bryant, but miraculously NONE hit him!
As for the End Zones, yes they did this. I also remember going to Jackson, MS and they would have Ole Miss vs Alabama then LSU vs Moo St the SAME DAY! In the end Zones would be two stars in each corner with each of the four teams colors...pretty cool.
