Been wanting to try it for some time, but have a question for those whove been.
Is this the type of place one could celebrate an anniversary at?
TIA.

Took my wife there for our anniversary a few years back. She was happy with the choice.

Depends on your expectations/desires for an anniversary meal.
Roberto's has good grub. Likely you wont be disappointed with your meal.

It is an old converted store with peeling paint on the walls. It can be loud and people tend to dress down (even for Baton Rouge) but the food is good...

Yes indeed, it is hole in the wall as far as appearances go, but the food that Berto makes will more than overwhelm the building. Call him the day before and tell about the event, it will be good.

I was told that a chef from Mansur's was headed over to Roberto's and would gradually (5-10 year period) be taking over.

How dressed down are we talking? I was thinking dress slacks and buttoned down shirt for me and maybe a little dress for Mrs. Bears.

Anniversary was this past Wednesday, but given the day of the week and that we had baby Bear girl the week before things have been crazy and planning went out the window. I'm assuming calling today would not give ample time for Berto to do something special.

Yep, there will be a bit of everything and perhaps a limo out front (has been one there the last two times I visited.) The food is very good, just wanted you to know the atmosphere. I would have no problem bringing my wife for our anniversary.

Uncle Mikey (mike andersons, that man respected me as I took no shite from him), and Jubans when it first opened were the two kitchens we worked in together. ETA Mikey walked into the kitchen of Jubans after seeing his wifes credit card bill about a month of Jubans being open. When he saw a kitchen staff that was 90% his employees, he shite in his pants. When he walked out we all laughed.

We go over there for lunch quite a bit. Lunch is very casual due to the number of plant workers that go. Great food!

As I said noshittum from him. When was the last time you took on head to head an ex-All American football linebacker to tackle him? He is about 150 lbs heavier, that was one means of earning his respect, it ws a Mack truck running over me but it did the job intended.
