Watch and learn. There's a lot of different schools of trout swimming around that lake. North side usually has pretty water but I've caught trout all over the lake. Nothing to brag about size wise. Just like any other lake.. Fish the reefs, points and where canals dump into the lake. Be careful running into the lake from the raccourci... If u don't hit it right at low tide you'll smoke a reef

Yeah, we found that part too. That's why I've always been so hesitant to run out there. I've always known how to get to the Lake, just not how to run though since Raccourci is so shallow. Going into Raccourci I went maybe 10ft to the right of where I should have gone and ended up in about 1.5' or less of water...was almost bad. Did the same thing going into Mechant...hung just a tad bit too far to the right and hit the shallows. Don't know why don't they just dredge out a channel given all the boat traffic through there.

Fish the reefs

That has been my struggle in Mechant. I don't know where the oysters are. I fish the sister lake side more often because it seems there are a lot more oysters (not sure if this is really the case or not) than in Mechant, which seems to have more of a mud bottom. It seems to me you have to cover a lot more water in Mechant to find fish, where as in Sister lake, you just bounce from reef to reef, and they're either there or they're not.
