So I'm cooking ribs this afternoon and have a sack of red potatoes to cook as well. I was going to make crash potatoes but want to try them on the grill. I was thinking about halving them putting them in a pan with butter parsley salt and pepper and just kind of cooking them like that til soft. Think that would work? Any other ideas?

I cook red potatoes on the grill all the time. I slice them about a 1/4" thick, dice up onions. Put both in a tightly sealed aluminum foil pack, with salt, pepper, olive oil, and butter. takes about 30 minutes on the grill. spray the foil with cooking spray first to help avoid sticking.

Slice them about a half inch thick or so, and slide them onto a skewer (so they're laying flat like a coin, not standing up). Drizzle with olive oil, salt, pepper. Grill a few minutes each side until they get a little charred.

I do this a lot with sweet potatoes but would think red potatoes would be good too

I'd do what you plan, but in foil packets.

If your gonna grill them then give them give them some grill contact. If your using a pan or foil wrap you can just use the oven.

I like them that way, but there isn't much grill flavor unless you open the packet toward the end of cooking and let some heat get in that way, which is what I do.

Do you put them on the grill raw? I grilled some sweet potatoes, but I par cooked the
First because I figured that would burn before they cooked if you didn't. Couple minutes in the microwave to soften them up

I put them on raw. If you slice them thin enough they won't take long. I also put them aside on indirect heat so they cook and not immediately burn

I went with both the "foil" and direct method. I also did it with beets as well. The foil method i agree was just like in the oven. The directly on the grill method was better. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Both methods for beets were meh.
