Is this place aluminum bass boat friendly? I've been dying to go somewhere that I can get in bass and reds.
Absolutely. DeCade gets pretty rough on windy days, but I don't find it to be any worse than Verrett on windy days. The place is loaded with specs in the winter. A friend of mine goes in a 17' Xpress Bass Boat all the time.
Plenty of spots to catch reds and bass around there.

What other areas can you guys recommend around that area? I've fished west and south central LA my whole life but being at LSU id like to find some closer spots for now.

I fish there in a 15' bass boat and have no problems. It can get rough, but just pay attention and you'll do well there.

FWIW, now that Nicholls cancelled the 6v6 soccer tourny this weekend, I may try to make a trip out to Decade. My gf has been begging to take the boat out, so I may oblige...still TBD. But if anyone is out there and sees a white 22' Blue Wave, holla

I would suggest going down Falgout Canal Rd to the damn closest to Dulac. I have had really good success on shrimp and crab on the bottom. I grew up with having the lease behind the dams and also across Falgout canal rd toward Bayou le Boute. It was a true paradise, we would murder the fish, ducks and we would get 250 alligator tags; of course we lost the lease . I am not sure who has it now, but the ponds across Falgout is loaded with bass and redfish.

Are you talking north side or south side of the canal? Those ponds private property? Just trying to find more kayak spots.

South Side. Across the Falgout canal rd. To be honest I am not sure if the are private or even watched over anymore. I know Harry Bourg corp owns alot of land in the back of Bayou le Boute and you can get a permit to fish their land for $25.00. I drove Falgout canal last year and I did see trucks parked on the side of the road with guys in pirogues out in the ponds. Good Luck

If you could put that yak in a real boat and run for a ways then throw it in the marsh, you could KILLLLLLLLLLLLL the reds out there.

I happen to have a boat and a kayak. Lets go. I need to weld a kayak rack to my boat though.

1.where could you launch near Dulac with a kayak to get back there?
2.what about the little cuts and ponds on the south side of the canal west of falgout marina?
Thanks.

We could make a bolt on one easily so it wouldnt be permanent. Damn good idea. Getting in and out of the yak would be tough though unless you can stand up in it.

I wish I had a bay boat for more room. Maybe I'll see if my buddy with the 24' Skeeter will let me take his. We could pile the yaks up in that.

Deacon, I fish most every weekend alternating between fresh and salt water sometimes both. For redfish, my go to spot is lake Boudreaux. It is my favorite place for sight fishing reds. I see you said you fish Cocodrie . If ever you are interested in fishing that way let me know and you can jump on board or we can put the yak in the boat and I will show you around the area. I am always looking for a fishing partner as a lot of the buddies are getting tied down and not able to fish as much.

What is the Gibson report looking like? My buddy that fishes there said they shut down a little the last week or two.
I'm planning on heading out there next weekend.

1. I would launch right off of falgout canal rd. you may have to drag the to the water but all of the ponds are loaded with reds. Once you come off the pontoon bridge (heading down dularge) take the left and go about a mile are two down, launch the yak on right side of the road and you will hammer the reds. I just don't know if it posted. you will see plenty of ducks (some of them use to be mine) dad and I would catch our limits of reds out the blinds while duck hunting when we had the lease.

My neighbor caught a bunch of bream there Saturday

Sounds good Lip. The past 4 times I have been to Cocodrie I had to yak fish alone.
Send me an email.
